-Strength is defense. The defensive front may turn out to be a top 2-3 unit in the conference when all said and done.
-elite linebacker room. Maybe the best in the country, or very close. Stutsman will be first team all American. Kip will get all sec honors.
-elite safety room. Bowman hasn’t performed as I’d have expected but still has played well. RSJ may be first team all sec.
-weakness is the corners. Big and lanky, but slow. As we saw with Auburn, deep balls are where you exploit the defense. I expect we see Eli Bowen starting on Saturday. He has played like a young Revis shutting down auburns 5 star wr the entire game. He’s extremely fast and has played like an upper class man. I’m very excited to see how he grows this season.
-Putting defense together, venables is very aggressive in prioritizing stopping the run. He has done a great job of that; Tennessee game was a good example. However, because he likes to load the box more, even if he doesn’t given his boys in the front are more than big and capable enough to cause problems, leaves less men to cover down the field. I anticipate we see Texas capitalize on some home run plays next Saturday.
-Offensively, the wide receiver room is eviscerated. Our prayer is for Burks to be good for Texas, otherwise we are going to have a very hard time putting together drives that enable defense to rest.
-RB room gets a failing grade. Extremely disappointing. Sawchuk is a non factor, Tatum is the best talent but is a few months removed from his senior prom and it’s easy to see that, Barnes is the best back, and he’s looking like a pedestrian short down back on any other sec team.
-offensive line gets a D. Gave them a pass somewhat early on given their injuries. Auburn was the first game with all the guys (besides Hatchett who is out for the year now) we thought would start to play together. Saw improvement but they need to improve dramatically between now and Saturday. The size and talent is there, but I don’t see them being more than a pedestrian unit, at best, and a total disaster at worst.
-Hawkins is the QB1 now. And that’s not going to change. Kid has got heart, guts, and has shown the ability to make good, quick decisions with the ball. He has the ability to DIY and make something out of nothing…very similar to a Kyle Murray/caleb Williams type. Fully expect he will fall victim to some predictable freshman mistakes, and imagine we will see some against Texas. However, I think the future is very bright and he will develop into an all sec qb in the years to come.
-Overall, this team weirdly enough can still realistically win 9+ games. However, to do this, they need the o line and wr rooms to grow up in a big way. Hawkins is more than capable but he needs a lot of help. The success or failure of this team rests on the offense to turn a corner…if they do, this team will be fighting for a playoff spot….if they don’t, this team could very well drop 3-4 games from here on out.
Texas game is the inflection point. This is where you make your money. What’s this season going to be? We are about to know a lot in about 5 days.

Hard to tell what we really are on defense.
Offense we have a FCS QB. Yet our OC thinks he is Patrick Mahomes.

Optimistic about Umass?
At least we’ve reached rock bottom. We are just like Tennessee just a few years ago.

Tough to tell.
Mizzou is clearly not what we had hoped. We can forget talk about playoffs.
But I don’t think they are as awful as they showed/played yesterday.

Offense- elite when firing on all cylinders, the first half of the cowbell game is the first time our offense didn't look phenomenal, hopefully the last. Speed does indeed kill, and this may be the fastest overall Longhorn team since 04-05.
Defense- in spite of losing our Brick wall that shut down everyone's run game last year, our edge rushers, linebackers and especially secondary (our one weakness last season) have vastly improved. Sure they haven't been tested by a high powered offense yet, but they've been practicing against one for months now.
Special teams- pretty solid if not spectacular, won't be a liability in any game and may even
help us win a tight one.
Summary- when everyone is on their A-game we can beat anything the Rig12, ACC, B1G and yes, even SEC can throw at us. Does that mean we'll win every game 100-0 and never lose one? No, but I haven't seen a Texas team like this since the early 2k's. The Colt McCoy era had some great teams as well, but I think the '24 Longhorns are a more complete team, and that's even with a very thin RB room at this point. I will be honestly shocked if we don't go to the playoffs, and mildly surprised if we don't win at least the semi.

I had us pegged at 5-1 after week 6, I just had us losing to Georgia instead.
I was wrong when I thought it would take longer to get the offense clicking trying to figure out what worked best. Offense is not a problem.
Defense I expected the secondary to be an issue because of youth. That is a bit of an issue but never saw defensive scheme and inability to adjust as being a big problem.
Hoping that gets fixed.

Our shite show is not on the defense.

A lot of busted coverages.
Upfront has been solid.

No clue. LSU could lose 4 more or win out. Most likely 2 more losses if I had to guess.
But Nuss is projected to be the #10 pick in the draft, so who knows

It’s not rocket science, you simply cannot compete in the SEC without (at bare minimum) an above average quarterback. Cook is clearly below average. Look at how Pavia led his team to knock off a #1. Sadly, Drink has never recruited or developed a QB that has panned out.
Talk recruiting stars all you want, Horn hasn’t played but a couple of insignificant snaps (yeah I know he’s injured now). Zollers in ‘25 or ‘26? I’d be happy to eat my words, but in the meantime, I see a maximum of 4 (5 if we get really lucky) more wins on the schedule.

I don't know, man. UMass this week. At this point we can't take anything for granted. It appears we beat a pretty good Vandy team, or actually, Vandy lost. BC is decent, but mid-level. I don;t know where we fall. But this weekend will not tell us much, other than a good chance to see a couple of diffent looks from a couple of different players.

Last year I thought our WR corp was untalented for the most part. This year, outside of broden, I really like what they have going. A complete turnaround to me.

Well that’s the thing, I’m not saying we deserve redemption, but we won’t have any chance to show A&M was a fluke (IF it was…doubtful) until Bama at which time we will get crushed again! Not even saying Auburn at home is a walkover, but even if we win it won’t prove anything.
We’ll get bowl eligible by the end of the season, but clearly no CFP in our future.

Off week hopefully helps us get new QB’s in the system.
Moral victory against Texas last week on the road. Our defense is a bunch of JV squad guys but look like they are buying into the system.
Offense should be better suited with the mobility of the young QB’s. If they can complete some passes we might have one upset in our tanks for the year. The fact we ran the ball on Texas gives me some Hopium. We just need some time, experience, and some players on defense.

I don’t actually think A&M is that good. I think we just fricking suck.

The only thing I’ll add to the comments from my fellow Aggies who have already chimed in is that I’m thrilled with how good the Elko hire has been for Texas A&M.
The 5-1 record is obviously a positive, but the overall culture in the locker room was very broken, due to a series of coaches who were bad fits for A&M.
Elko is a blue collar football dude. Period. He doesn’t care about swag copters, gold chains, flashiness, or any other meaningless bullshite. He’s an X’s and O’s players’ coach who sets clear expectations, is consistent, approachable with fans, and hungry to win.
It’s been badly needed, and is beyond a breath of fresh air. He’s a fantastic fit.

- Running game is a worry. Parish is doing enough. Jones isn’t an SEC back and no one knows why Bentley isn’t playing.
-Dart missed some plays in the 2nd half against SC but dude is a gamer and rough as nails. He is good enough to run this offense at a very high level.
- O line is a concern. The UK DT gave us and UGA fits. We handled the SC rush ends pretty well. So I’m hoping it was just the UK DT is playing at Ndomiken Suh levels.
-WR room is really good. Harris is elite but questions are out on if his injury was high ankle or low ankle sprain. Wells is explosive but has had problems with drops. Watkins and Lee are really reliable slot guys that Dart trust. Prieskorn is a good TE but we haven’t utilized him much to this point.
-D line is elite. Nolen and Peagues are as good as anyone at DT. Princely U is a game changer when healthy and Perkins has like 12 tackles against SC. Ivey is a solid solid every down SEC DE.
- Paul and Daughtery have given us stability at LB. Best LB core we have had in the last 10 years and it isn’t close.
- DBs are physical and cover really well. Issue is we get handsy at times and get PIs called that extend drives. Better at that against SC. If that improves the defense is Elite
-Season is on the line. If we go into LSU and defense shows up and holds LSU to less than 20 our offense should have more than enough juice to win the game. OU at home seems winnable. @ Ark is scary. But if we get through those 3, we would be 9-1 hosting UGA in Oxford with @UF and vs State to end the season. We win Saturday, the road is paved for 10-2 and a playoff birth.
