We'll be lucky to beat Mercer.

Making the sec title game shouldn’t have a negative impact but it might if you make it and lose.
While I agree, there is a problem even before the SEC CG. 5 SEC teams aren't making the playoffs.. So even if no SEC CG is played.. at least 1 of these teams is going to be left out (in that scenario).
Georgia 11-1
Tennessee 10-2
Alabama 10-2
Texas 10-2
Texas A&M 10-2
Records Against Each Other
Georgia 2-1
Alabama 1-1
Texas 1-1
Tennessee 1-1
Texas A&M 0-1
So from this perspective, A&M would probably be out if there was no SEC CG, so at least they would get a shot to beat Georgia. There are so many possibilities though, which is great for discussion, which makes it great for CFB.. while having divisions adds more clarity, it also eliminates more teams.. you can definitely make the argument both ways..

Sec overrated
LOL - I remember when the 2017 Hurricanes were cruising with their 4-point win over FSU (7-6) , 1-point win over Georgia Tech (5-6), 8-point win over Syracuse (4-8), 5-point win over North Carolina (3-9). Ya'll were feeling pretty cocky rolling into Pitt (5-7) with your 10-0 record ranked #2. Then Pitt beat you by double digits, Clemson smoked you in the ACC Chanmpionship game by 5 touchdowns and Wisconsin pounded you by double digits in the bowl game in your own stadium.

What I hope happens is this: Aggies, LSU, and UGA win out. Then the SECCG would be Ags vs LSU again.
4 SEC teams make the CFP: A&M, LSU, UGA, and either Texass or Tennessee.

Part of me would love to see this matchup. Just to show what's wrong this 16-team, uni-division mess.

Major upsets Bama sec champ loses in semis at worst

I’m figuring Ole Miss has at least a couple loses left in them.

For Tennessee I expect us to drop 1 more against UGA but win the rest. Should be enough to sneak us into the playoffs.
Unfortunately, maybe not. Kind of 50/50.
Tennessee would definitely deserve it in my book.
But ...
The problem is these other conferences being so top heavy.
Media will do everything they can to promote the 11-1 Penn State's and Miami's, Clemson's of the world and leave as many SEC teams as possible out.
I see SEC only getting in 2 teams.

It's possible. There are a lot of undefeated and one loss teams floating out there in the P4 conferences..
Big 12
8-0 BYU
8-0 Iowa State (plays KSU)
7-1 Kansas State (plays ISU)
ACC
8-0 Miami
7-0 Pitt (plays Clemson + SMU)
6-1 Clemson (plays Pitt)
7-1 SMU (plays Pitt)
Big 10
8-0 Oregon
8-0 Indiana (plays Ohio State)
7-0 Penn State (plays Ohio State)
6-1 Ohio State (plays Indiana + Penn State)
Other
7-1 Notre Dame (plays Army)
7-1 Boise State
7-1 Washington State
7-0 Army (plays ND)
That is 15 teams that could all end up with 11 wins.. before you even get to the SEC. You know the officials will be giving them all the benefit of the doubt..
SEC
11 wins = in
10 wins = unknown
If Washington State ends up 11-1 and PAC 2 Champs, they might be thrown a bone where a 6th CC gets in, leaving only 6 at large spots. Army could be in the same boat if they end up 12-1.. leaving only 5 at large spots.
The playoff will be expanding to 14 or 16 sooner than later.

LSU gets lucky and squeaks by Bama, then wins out.
aTm wins out, beating Texas in a wild rivalry week game.
LSU then takes out aTm in Atlanta.

I’ll be an optimist and say Texas wins out but loses again to UGA, and gets an at large bid.
My main hope is we meet up with Miami there. Payback has been a long time coming.

We drop one more close one at Kyle to miss ATL, squeak into an at-large bid, win one & lose in quarters.
We finish 7th overall with an 11-3 record.

The first CFP rankings next Tuesday will give an idea of what the committee thinks of the SEC vs Big 12 vs ACC teams.

I don’t Texas is playing at College Station and they will be rowdy and loud and circled this game.
I think it will be a great game but I wouldn’t bet on either team it will be a close game.
