As somebody who is fascinated by the state dynamics of fandom in various states... the state of Kentucky is completely unique.
Louisville was a "municipal" school until 1970. Run by the city. The University of Kentucky was the STATE school... and Louisville was the CITY school.
As a result...from what I have studies.... Louisville really doesn't have a fan base outside of the Louisville area. The rest of the state is all Kentucky fans.
I'd be interested in Kentucky fans on here commenting on the accuracy of this...

but not as many as the LSU team! plus your old coach is now at a better job so he will have an SEC Championship real soon.

You are correct. UofLs fan base is largely Jefferson County. There are 120 counties in Kentucky. 119 support UK. The counties surrounding Jefferson have a larger UofL presence than elsewhere, but still overwhelmingly UK.

Trust me. Deal with Miami fans and Ohio State fans if you want to wonder how a fanbase can be that way. Same with Detroit Piston fans.

At my last job I worked in Kentucky both in Lexington and Louisville. Lexington was gorgeous and the people although haughty were like most of the SEC towns easy to talk to and generally pleasant. Louisville had this guido cowboy vibe where the dudes rocked Ed Hardy shirts with cowboy hats and necklaces. Very odd people and they weren't personable at all.
