That crash changed things for Arkansas and the league. Arkansas would have been the closest thing to a challenge for Alabama, winning a few games against them and claiming a couple league titles. Maybe even a natty if things played out right.

I doubt that, considering he was a lousy recruiter.

What is listed is a joke compared to the Texas game.

Frank Broyles going for it instead of a field goal to make it 17-0 against Texas but was intercepted. Arkansas lost 15-14.

The Tennessee fumble was even close to the 1969 Texas game. Nutt was an idiot and would find a way to lose that game regardless. If not then he would the next game against State.

Nutt couldn't win the close games that mattered. If he beat Tennessee, the loss to State was inevitable. He wasn't going to beat them twice and he wasn't going to win the SEC.

Now if Butch Davis didn't go to Miami and was the coach instead then he would have won the SEC in either 98 or 99.

Nutt would still have found a way to lose if the muffed punt didn't exist. Most likely a turnover on downs in the final minutes.

He should never have been given a scholarship and got one because of his father.

Arkansas was good enough to beat Florida and win the SEC in 06 and 07. But Nutt and his drama prevented that from happening.

Petrino was never going to do anything at Arkansas. He simply was never good enough as a head coach to be successful. He had weaknesses and his recruiting by Arkansas standards was bad.

Yeah I get Texas because it was for a potential Natty but that fumble and my heart literally hurts.

Not a Hog fan but as an OU fan we had an obligation to despise Texas and DKR.

They were beating OU every year back then so I was living vicariously through the Hogs that day.

I still remember Arkansas having the ball inside the Texas 10 and Montgomery threw a lazy pass in the end zone that got intercepted.

And of course the Street to Peschel pass really sucked too if you were rooting for the Hogs.

Frank Broyles blamed himself for the loss and never watched film that game. That game and the stress of integration broke his spirit and the following years were mediocre except for 1975.

A book called Horns, Hogs and Nixon coming explains in detail before, during and after that game.

I know but even if Arkansas won that game, Nutt would still lose in a rematch in the SECCG. He never had what it took to win the big games that would be program defining.

What he did as his second stint at Louisville would reflect what he would have done at Arkansas if he wasn't fired. Slowly regress and crash.

Brothers Karamazov? Thought it sounded familiar.

You had a lot of options because they all had three names!
