That wasn't the question. The question was - are teams x and y better than z because x and y have more championships.
What you say in this post has nothing to do with the question. The simple answer is - for 50 years teams x and y were better. For the last 70 years, teams x and y have been shite. So, no, they are not better now. They were better then.
What are you, like 12?

Thank you everyone for proving my point by being butt hurt. The answer is No and football changed drastically over time and programs never stay the same. If your name isn't Alabama, Auburn, Georgia then sit down and drink a beer. State is just better than you.

How am I "butthurt?" Just because I think your question is stupid?
I'm not mad at you. I just think you aren't very smart. There IS a difference

It wasn't towards you personally. That's just me being myself. My question actually was " How do you compare programs? " and programs change throughout history

Does that mean Princeton and Yale is a better program than Alabama?
In 1922 yes they were a lot better, but considering not even the old timers like that lady who has been going to Vikings games since the beginning of time remember any of those Princeton or Yale titles they don't mean quite as much. Oh and IIRC all of those ivy league titles were pre-poll era, when there wasn't really such a thing as a National Champion.

About damn time. In 2013, LSU was a better program but things has changed. Coach O put State over the top. If you search most championship won by school, Princeton and Yale are 1 & 2.

right no difference between 1922 and 2013
I tell you what, if State beats LSU by 30 every year for the next 98 years, then State will be the better program.

Those 1 game season NCs.

You do realize that when they won those championships that the Ivy League were pretty much the only schools playing football, right?

That's cute that you are trying to convince yourself of that

Before the BCS, was there a championship game? For years, it was just a matter of an opinion. AP had their champion, USA today had their champion and so on but there wasn't a championship game.
Agree, we should only determine things based on the history since the BCS started. Oh wait, Alabama wins that one too. Well, only since the playoff era then. Damn it Alabama.

Its because those schools don't care about sports.
Too busy counting money to count championship banners.

1869 1st ever game & Split National Championship
Princeton 1-1
Rutgers 1-1
The first college football national championship is claimed by Princeton and Rutgers in 1869. They were the only 2 teams playing college football or even had a college football team that year.
They played 2 games with each team winning 1 game apiece, so each team claims the national championship.
Of course, they were better than Alabama, since Alabama did not even have a team at that time. Hell, Alabama's campus was burned down in 1865, 4 years prior. So, I don't think they were worried about playing football games at that time.
1870 2nd season 1st ever undefeated Natty
Princeton 1-0
Rutgers 1-1
Columbia 0-1
The season involved only three teams and two known games which took place in November 1870.
Rutgers beat Columbia 6-3 on the Rutgers’ campus in New Brunswick, New Jersey. A week later, on November 12, Princeton defeated Rutgers 6-2 on the Princeton campus. So Princeton claims the 1st undefeated season at 1-0 & the Natty.
Etc. etc. etc.
Bama didn't even field a team until 23 years after the 1st college football game. As did most of the Southern teams, since most of the Southern colleges were still recovering from the war.

When were their last ones?
Bama has won multiple NC's in all of the different eras of college football. That's pretty much why Bama is the King of college football. Not my call, just how it is my man.

The NCAA recognizes these national championships LINK ....
Yale - 18
Princeton - 15
Alabama - 15
Notre Dame - 13
Harvard - 8
Ohio State - 8
Oklahoma - 7
Looks like Alabama has tied Princeton's natty record & is just 3 away from Yale's.
Maybe this will be an incentive for Coach Saban to stick around to tie and/or beat Yale's record.

Did football start out as a rich person's sport before trickling down? Sort of like Cricket?
