contract. He could have made more in the NFL overall.
How so? NOBODY had guaranteed back then and he got that from the USFL.Why should he have stayed another year in college and risk career ending injury?
Boz had leverage because was a supplemental pick and it was also 6 years
after HW's and NFL salaries had gone up substantially by then because of the USFL and guaranteed contracts are still very rare.

Herschel could have been the first pick and commanded whatever he wanted
You don't know what would have happened his senior year in college... NOBODY does and he was offered the richest contract in pro football history.
quote:What?
He would have also been a commercial smash bringing in even more cash.
quote:
He would likely be in the Hall of Fame now
Nobody knows who he would've signed with had he stayed and played in the NFL.

Last SEC title for UTK: 1998
UGA has 3 since then
Is this part where you say SEC titles don't matter like you're an Alabama fan?
No, I would say SEC titles certainly matter but 05 and 02 are ancient history as you say and 2017 it doesn't really help that the National champ was an SEC team which beat you after you won the SEC. Definitely overshadows that one a bit

Very misleading. Guaranteed contracts are replaced by huge guaranteed signing bonuses..

He would have been the most marketable player in the NFL draft after his senior season. Period. The whole football world loved Walker. He was much more beloved than the Boz. It wasn't close. Instead he floated around to different teams instead of being the marquee guy.
As it stands, he MIGHT get into the PFHOF as a legend. It's on him. Too bad, he was a great player, likeable guy and charismatic. He went to Dallas and shared the backfield with Tony Dorsett. Walker was great but he could have done more without TD in the backfield his first season in the NFL. When he signed with the Cowboys he made more than Tony. As the first pick in the draft he could have gotten even more.

If you have to ask or tell people you belong in the HOF, you probably don’t belong.

He's not getting in for the same reason Dale Murphy is not getting into the Baseball HOF. Good, but not great stats.
Just saw this.

Not when he didn't come close to collecting the $11 million he signed for. Herschel got every penny of the $5 million.

You are bat shite insane. More marketable than Walter Peyton?Terry Bradshaw? Eric Dickerson? Dan Marino?
quote:WTF does Boz have to do with this He was an over the top personality that created an alter ego and was gone after 3 years.HW was the complete opposite.
He was much more beloved than the Boz

And he coulda had a career ending injury his senior year. He made the right call with or without getting in the HOF.
It was a no brainier.

Certainly odd to see UT fans claim SEC championships and playoff games don’t matter. Could understand Bama fans having that view, but not UT.
But completely understandable that a UGA wants to low the standards of accomplishment. National titles matter. Give 99% of the CFB world UGAs talent level and expectations and they have a title to show for it. UGA fans needed affirmative action (a 4 team playoff) to sniff a title since the Carter administration. Top 5 recruiting classes year after year for a generation and still cant get it done.

Yet another reason Bo > Herschel

AFL stats are included and it's not call the NFL HOF,it's called the Pro Football HOF.
Are you saying AFL as in old school AFL or Arena Football?
If it's old school, then it's because the AFL and the NFL merged together. If Arena, I don't believe you.
Pro Football = NFL. The USFL and other leagues that have popped up are a joke without the same level of competition.

No shite,they merged?
Has nothing to do with your original statement though.

it's not the same thing.
Also,Warren Moon's CFL stats along with the USFL stats from Steve Young,Jim Kelly and Reggie White are included with their display. The All American Football stats and records are also included in the HOF.

I know exactly how it works and you are utterly clueless.
So you're REALLY trying to tell me a unassuming, rookie #1 draft pick woulda made more endorsement money in the early 80's than Joe Montana,Dan Marino or Walter Peyton there's nothing more to be said
BTW,I was around back then and was in school with HW and also saw the explosion of the NFL in the 80's.You're not even close.

If Edgerrin James is in the HOF.
Herschel should be in as well
Herschel should be in as well

I'm a big Herschel Walker fan. He deserves serious consideration for the Pro Football HOF.

He has a good point. The man produced as an elite all purpose skill player.
