Tier 1: UGA and Bama

Tier 2: LSU

Tier 3: Tennessee

Tier 4 (in order of closeness to Tier 3): A&M, Ole Miss, Auburn

Tier 5: Texas, Florida, OU, Arkansas, Kentucky

Tier 6: South Carolina, Miss St, Mizzou

Tier 7: Vanderbilt

Some notes: LSU is on track for tier 1. Tennessee is solid in tier 3. Bama goes down to tier 2 if they miss the playoff again. A&M would be tier 2 with a better coach. Ole Miss and Auburn are tier 4 due to coaching. Texas, UF, and OU should be at least tier 3 but aren’t due to coaching. Kentucky is tier 5 due to good coaching. Arkansas is solid tier 5. South Carolina may be close to jumping up a tier.

Objectively, Bama will be on a downtrend if y’all miss the playoffs this year. In my book, tier one means it’s an upset if you aren’t in the playoff. I didn’t bump y’all down to tier 2 because I don’t think Saban can be counted out of the playoffs yet.

Tier 1 and 7 are constants right now, the rest change weekly.

It’s like the head to head and overall record didn’t happen.

Be good for more than 3/4 of one season.

These are forward looking tiers. Basically, how healthy is your program? I weighted heavily towards coaching. I think Tennessee is a top 15 program right now. I have LSU as a top 10 program.

I think it’s fair to say we’d be better with ANOTHER coach, ie, add a solid OC.

No idea if Petrino will work out, but IMHO the single biggest drawback we’ve had is Jimbo trying to do both, and not doing either of them all that well because of it.

I think the SEC is way too fluid to have this many tiers, unless you're just talking about this particular upcoming season.

Take the last 20 yrs, and I'd put Bama by themselves,

Then FL, LSU, Auburn, and Oklahoma in tier 2, though I hesitate to include a not-yet SEC team in these tiers

Also think Mizzou should be higher than you have them- theyve acquitted themselves nicely since joining SEC.

So you didn't see the LSU-Tennessee game last season? We had a better record and mauled them in Baton Rouge.
