Gimmick offenses are the only way those teams can narrow the talent gap. It is a good strategy. The defense will catch up.

Nah, you can get lucky and win. The ball is oblong and bounces funny so anything can happen.

or maybe recruiting rankings aren't the end all be all. Crazy theory I know

If it's too quick though that's what timeouts are for

I agree with this, but I would add that if the game is going to be run at an insanely fast pace, then give each team additional timeouts!

Instead of just 3 per half, let's increase the number of timeouts to 5 per half.....

First thing I want to say, and it is painful for me to say this, is that Gustav is doing to SEC football right now what Spurrier did in the 90's. The man is a brilliant offensive coach.

How did the 40 second play clock rules effect the HUNH offenses? Maybe go back to the old 25 play clock rules.

There should be a penalty anytime a coach tries to influence the refs.
If I were an official, and a receiver feels he was interfered, and mockingly threw up an arm, like he was throwing a flag, I would pull out my flag and tell him, I will make the calls, you just play football.

Sorry to get off topic.

Spurrier didn't really innovate the offense. He simply brought to the SEC what Florida State and Miami had been doing to teams since the mid-80s. As dominant as Florida was in the 90s, FSU and Miami were still more powerful.

Gus Malzahn is simply running Paul Johnson's offense from the spread at a breakneck pace. It's not really innovative, it's just fast. That's it's advantage.

I agree... I don't like Auburn but Gus is a damn good coach... With that said, I think Nick is catching up with him and many fast paced offenses this year with the type of athletes he's been recruiting... I don't the HUNH has been an issue for him this year...

Why do you sissies want to see the game become basketball on turf?

It's not basketball on turf. In basketball, the defense can substitute on any dead ball, and the offense isn't allowed to put the ball into play until the defensive substitute is on the court and the other guy is off. Making it more like basketball would actually slow the game down.

Dude. Every team is less talented than Bama. Saban had the #1 recruiting class the last 4 years in a row. You can't beat that. You can't even be even with it. The last 4 years Auburn ranked #7, #10, #8 and #9 according to Rivals.com. Bama has a clear edge in talent.

You mean the recruiting rankings by the same services that had Tyler Love a 5 star? That had Bryce Brown as the #1 player in the country? Or Chance Warmack and Javier Arenas as only 3 stars? Those recruiting services?

Recruiting rankings are incredibly subjective. Seriously, you can take the top dozen classes and there's probably not a dime's worth of difference between any of them.

Did you ever see Malzone as a kid? Man, you're talking about a couple of large houses at least could fit easily in that big fat head of his.
That's why his daddy slapped that boy after birth. He looked at that big head then screamed " Boy, I had that just like I wanted it, now.you have stretched it out of shape!

I agree. What he changed was SEC D's. He forced teams to get faster on D. You either had speed on D...........or you were chasing it against his O all day long.
