I stated Herb was an All-American.

You say:

No he’s not

Dude, where have you been????

Herb Jones - 3rd team AP All-American

Did you seriously not know that??

is a great passer off the dribble drive.

This I totally agree with. And I understand he has to take the occasional shot off the dribble drive in order for the defense to respect it to set up the pass. I just think he is taking too many of them and he really starts to struggle with ball handling and taking it to the rim strong when those dribble drives are guarded.

Herb generally only takes in rythm, off the pass wide open 3s, and those have been minimal lately.

8 3 pt attempts in the last 3 games (0-8) is getting too much for me. He forced a really bad one today.

Imagine watching Petty play today and then turning around to say, "That Herb Jones is the problem!"

I don't like him taking any 3 that's isn't wide open and in rythm. He's improved everything in his offensive game but he's just not a pure shooter.

Yea, a 3rd team. Traditionally when someone calls someone an All American, they are not talking about the 3rd team. Regardless, I'm not arguing he is a bad player. He just isn't one of our better offensive players but has taken on that role in the last 3 games going into March.

Exactly. Petty was off big time. Herb actually picked up Petty's slack today.

As for taking up for Petty's slack, I don't buy that. It's not like Petty is on the bench and his attempts have to be replaced. Petty is still on the court shooting and missing. Most of Jones' extra attempts are shots that are being taken away from more productive offensive players like Shackelford or Quinerly.

I mean am I just blind or am I the only person who has noticed Herb Jones struggles to make basic layups?
Petty's gonna get his time on the floor because of his defense and what is known of his potential capabilities (who knows if ONE play could turn things around for him). Oats knows what we've got to have offensively to move forward, and some Petty and/or Primo contribution is almost a certainty.
Secondly, you obviously give no credence to Jones' ability to drive the ball to the rim for a shot, an assist or draw a foul. Surely he's missed some head-scratching shots at the rim, but he's also gotten his own rebound, kept the ball alive or made a line for another Bama player to slip in for a put-back.
Hell, the guy sees that the offense is hurting and his character pushes him to do all he can to win. Everybody knows he's not Lebron James, but he's gonna lay it all out there for the team...and that'll win a lotta games.

Oh trust me. I'd love to see Petty on the bench as a rotational player. There is no need to point out Petty's struggles. It is obvious to everyone. But most Bama fans have an obsessive love with Herb Jones (much deserved) while failing to recognize that maybe he shouldn't be our leading scorer and FG attempt guy going into March Madness.

Herb is an elite defender, leader, teammate, and passer. He is a below average to average ball-handler and shooter. And that is perfectly ok if he stays within his very important role.

Maybe you should get Coach on the phone and have him chew Herd Jones arse out for shooting 3’s. And tell him to sit the first half of the next game.

And get back with us on what he has to say.

And I'm all about his leadership, effort, etc. I just don't think we make a Final 4 with him leading the team in FG's throughout the NCAA's like he has in the last 3 games. It is a role he has never had in his entire 4 yr college basketball career.

Well who in hell do you want to do it then? Basketball is a game where, if a person has the game and the seeds to do it, he can make himself a star player simply by his performance! Who have you seen that can do it, and why haven't they already done it?

He's an ELITE defender and my argument is that he needs to return to that Dennis Rodman role instead of trying to be Rodman and Michael Jordan.

Who is Jones stealing shots from? I don't see anybody stepping up offensively other than Q. I'm sure Jones would be more than happy to dish to the hot hand if there was one.

Yea no. If we want to be a perennial contender in basketball, the team, fans, support staff, entire operation, etc have to think like Kansas, Duke, Kentucky, UNC, and Michigan State do. They don't celebrate "scrappy" wins over 15 seeds while acting like everything is great as long as you win.

Quinerly.

Basketball is also a game where every FG attempt someone takes is also an attempt someone else doesn't take. I think we would be more efficient on offense with Quinerly picking up most of Primo's attempts instead of Herb Jones. He is much better at driving to the paint and scoring than Jones.

This is the sort of dude that could win the lottery and then immediately start complaining about the taxes he'll have to pay.
