Herb Jones has strayed from his role in the postseason and the team is suffering for it.

Herb is the 4th leading scorer on the team, averaging 8 FG attempts a game, with a skill-set much more suited towards defense, rebounding, and assists. He's never been thought of as a 3 point shooter. And yet...
v. Iona: led the team in FG attempts with 15, 0-2 from 3
v. LSU: 2nd on team with 16 attempts, 0-3 from 3
v. Tennessee: led team with 18 attempts, 0-3 from 3
v. MSU: 4th with 6 attempts, 0-1 from 3 (a better role for him and a blowout win)
Obviously we have won all of these games, but I think most Bama fans would admit we have been somewhat out of rhythm offensively since the MSU game. Petty's poor shooting also shares blame but I think Jones taking on the unnatural role of lead scorer is also causing problems. He's missed his last 13 from 3, and is averaging double his normal FG attempts in the last 3 games.
IMO most of our drive to the basket type shots should be attempted by Quinerly, but Herb keeps trying to play like a point guard without the ball skills or shooting skills to effectively do so.

Bama is winning. Why do people always have to bitch about shite? Dude is an All-American.
And why not post this on the Bama board? People here don’t care.

It's March and Bama is the SEC champion and #2 seed in the tournament. There are only 3 other SEC teams left in the tournament. What else is there to talk about?

Are you under the delusion BAMA wins this game without Herb Jones? Herb has a sixth sense about what this team needs during a basketball game. As far as offensive schematics go that's a Nate Oats issue. Maybe you can explain to all of us where our SEC COY and SEC POY have got it all wrong?

Dumbest shite I've ever read on this forum

Duh. I'd like to make a Final 4 run though instead of just settling for average play that is going to bite us soon.

No he's not. But yes, he's a very good player for us when he's sticking to his role.
We are such an analytics based team, so it is hard to watch when one of our worst offensive players is continuing to lead the team in FG attempts going into the most critical part of the season.

God it is frustrating talking basketball with football fans. Saying Herb Jones is shooting too much or that his offensive game is lacking isn't the same as saying Herb Jones is a bad basketball player. He's an ELITE defender and my argument is that he needs to return to that Dennis Rodman role instead of trying to be Rodman and Michael Jordan. We can still obviously win games with Jones playing in this role, but I don't think we beat Texas, Michigan, or especially Gonzaga with Jones taking more shots than anyone else and from all over the court.

Lazy argument. If none of us can offer opinions on gameplay if the coach has more experience than us, then we need to shut down this board. No shite Nate Oats knows more about basketball than me.

If you'll look at it from his "leadership" perspective, you may realize that he has to help take up the offensive slack that Petty's and Primo's disappearance from our offensive production has put us in. His and JQ's additional production, along with the uptick in defensive tempo has kept us winning.
I'm sure he'd be happy to get back to his old game, if we can get the missing parts of our offense back.
PS- If we don't get at least most of it back, we won't have to worry about when the tourney gets to the Great Eight portion of it.

I've been making this argument all postseason whether we were winning or losing. It's not like I suddenly got mad when Iona took the lead and melted like most on here.

I'm not a "football fan" and I disagree with most of this.
To each his own, though.

That aside, you win the award for Most Obnoxious Bama fan among your fellow Bama fans.
Obviously you're the kind of guy that prefers focusing on what the team did wrong than giving them credit for refocusing and cleaning up a tough game when very little was going their way.
Bottom line: quit bitching so much.

"This team would be better without Herbert Jones and John Petty"
Don't waste time on this clown.

I can buy the argument that with Primo out, everyone else should have a slightly increased offensive role. But not double the role for Herb Jones who isn't one of our better offensive players.
As for taking up for Petty's slack, I don't buy that. It's not like Petty is on the bench and his attempts have to be replaced. Petty is still on the court shooting and missing. Most of Jones' extra attempts are shots that are being taken away from more productive offensive players like Shackelford or Quinerly.
I mean am I just blind or am I the only person who has noticed Herb Jones struggles to make basic layups?

Herbs a matchup nightmare off the switch and is a great passer off the dribble drive. He's in the positions he is on offense on purpose from the head coach. Herb generally only takes in rythm, off the pass wide open 3s, and those have been minimal lately.
Herb struggled mightily on offense during his back issue stuff in February. He's been strong with the ball, limited turnovers, finished around the rim pretty well and been incredible in transition. He's had an offensive rating of 100+ in 3 of the last 4 games (including today). I'm not sure what anyone's issue with him the last 2 weeks would be.
But again, to each his own.

I'm the kind of guy that wants a 2 seed Bama team capable of making a Final 4 run to actually make it to a Final 4. So yea that involves cleaning up areas we are not being efficient, despite the fact we are winning.
Petty has to either start making shots or sit on the bench, and Herb has to return to his former role, or mark my words we will not be a final 4 team with him being the primary offensive gameplan. It's just not his skillset.
