Have to admit that A&M turning a 5* from OU in the last moment is interesting

Consider....everybody, including A&M folks & media, thought it was a done-deal for OU hauling in David Hicks. All the intel had him going to Norman.

His father even ordered all this OU athletic wear, etc., and even told the OU media folks he was going there.

Then....30 minutes before the announcement.....Hicks says he's going to A&M.

Was there a NIL offer made at the last moment to Hicks he couldn't refuse? Dunno. Sure makes for interesting speculation, though.

Consider the comments from an OU writer and make your own conclusion:

OU writer:

"So you all know, Saturday I had recorded a "Know your croot" with him. He was committed silently for sometime. He told me it was OU then.

At that time he had zero reservations.

Even as of last night, it was OU. Even this morning it was OU.

As a matter of fact, it was OU up until 30 min prior to announcement when he told OU he was going to A&M.

Heck, I even flew in for the announcement because I was told it was still OU.

This is a big blow. In the world NIL, this thing got crazy real quick. So, when people thought I was stirring up drama, it was me being upfront with you all."

TexAgs released a long video discussion of the importance of the commitment at the exact time he committed.

A&M knew ahead of time, but they did a great job keeping it under tabs.

Really? If so, then why did Hicks tell them he was still going to OU shortly before the announcement? Was he being conspiratorial in deceiving OU that he was going there after all this time?

Inquiring minds want to know (I'm one of 'em).

Consider… the source (OU writer)

Consider…In the good ole days before NIL, OU really had it good with illegally paying players via Big Red car dealerships

Their tears mean nothing now

:) Good return, friend.

Nothing so satisfies the sweet tooth as good ole-fashioned revenge.

There is zero doubt that we can pay him more than OU. We have the highest payroll in the NCAA which last years class proved. I expect that continue moving forward. If we lose a recruit, it won't be because of money.

Aggie led for him for a long time, OU just gained momentum very recently

OU failed to flip him their way, this isn’t the shocker it’s being portrayed to be

Kid from Katy Texas who has mentioned that he wants to play close enough to home for his siblings to watch him play.

Has been to multiple games at A&M this year.

All the prep work was done for his announcement so A&M knew and did an outstanding job of not talking even to our own insiders about it.

Kid also mentioned the he did not like being "predicted" to go to OU.

However, I will wait for sliced bread to come out and tell us how many millions we spent. After all the dust from last year, the entire NIL budget for the entire team this year was just $3M not the ridiculous $30M for the freshman class alone.

If the kid was a Dallas kid, it would raise more of an eyebrow because OU has owned us in Dallas for a long time until just recently.

Guess losing to Kansas State 3 out of the last 4 is worse than losing to App State once.

Now on the pragmatic side, early signing day is in December. Kid could change his mind 3 times before then, so I ain't counting any chickens before they hatch.

Hicks has had 9 unofficial visits to A&M and was at the last two games.
He has always been an A&M lean.
Any big program can afford the 5 star D lineman. OU didn't lose him over money.
He committed to A&M because that's where he wanted to go.
All the horseshite coming out of ou is horseshite.

So if you take who owns/dominates what areas, A&M usually gets their kids usually from East Texas & Houston, horn has Austin/Central Texas, both probably both rely on the Golden Triangle.

OU has/had a good lock in Dallas kids, unsure if that’s still the case bc TCU joined the Big 12. It was the case before we left the Big 12.

Schools like Bama, Georgia, or Ohio State seem to focus on big names when recruiting Texas. LSU seems to focus in the Houston area.

These are general trends bc it always slightly changes who’s doing well recruiting what area.

I give you this because I know you guys love speculating how much we pay, but if you look at last year’s class, the city of Houston had a good year producing talent. This kid is from Katy. College Station is an hour and like 15 mins from Katy. It’s easier for his parents to go see him play. Make sense.

OU writers always think they are getting any kid they want. Doesn't surprise me they are shocked someone didn't pick OU.

We don't have an offensive coordinator. We have a head coach who thinks he can still be an OC while covering all of his other duties.

I think Jimbo also does special teams. I’ll give him that, he’s doing decent there. Let’s see how returns punts now.
