The idea that he didn't have talent is not backed by the recruiting rankings.

You must have been looking at overall rankings, rather than just offense. If you really want to see what he had to work with, look at the skill position recruiting rankings over the past 5 years compared to others.

Pretty sure he’s going to do just fine with the players he’ll have to work with.

If you need Bamas talent in order to be evaluated properly as an offensive coordinator, then that tells you exactly what you need to know about how good that OC is

Notre Dame's Offense Over the Last 3 Years

Total 4* & 5* offensive players that took snaps: 40 (3rd most in the nation)
Yards per game: 422.9 (40th)
Yards per play: 6.1 (36th)
Points per drive: 2.6 (27th)

Ohio State, Alabama, Texas A&M, Oregon are the only teams that had more 4* & 5* WR/RBs that played over the last 3 years. Notre Dame had the same amount as Clemson & UGA.

Anybody who says they know he’s gonna be great or awful, is lying or trolling.

He’s still new to this, TR may be the next great hire for Saban or he may be a miss.

There is no telling at this point.

It's ridiculous for either Alabama friends, or foes to worry themselves about who Coach Saban hires as a coordinator.
Seriously, would you question Henry Ford Sr.'s choice for a production Mgr., or "Red" Auerbach's lineup card?
WTF do you think you are?

Offense

QB- Drew Pyne, top 250 recruit, four star

RB- Audric Estime, top 250 recruit, four star

RB- Logan Diggs, top 500, three star

TE- Michael Mayer, not even gonna look this up, projected first round draft pick

WR Jayden Thomas, top 350, four star

WR Lorenzo Styles, top 150, four star

RB Chris Tyree, top 100, four star

These are their offensive leaders stat wise at the skill positions

Their projected Oline for 2022 are all four and five star guys.

Their center is usually mocked in second round, but have seen a few with him in the backend of the first round.

That's not a number 60 recruiting offensive roster. Not even close. Probably close to top ten, but definitely top 20.

Saban obviously likes Brian Kelly's offense. It's okay to admit that.

This year you lost a game where you scored 49 points and 31 points in OT.

Bryce, trying to make a play, actually cost you three by throwing an endzone pick vs. LSU. Maybe win that game if he doesn't.

Bryce may have made him look better than he was, but again, the numbers are near the top of the conference in almost any way you want to look at it. (All games, games against good teams, etc.)

He wasn't Kiffin or Sark, (two guys considered elite currently as OCs), but he wasn't trash. It's relative to what you had, but what you had before is not easy to find.

I'd compare it to when people say Mark Richt was average. He was very good. Not a lot of coaches can do what he did, even at a place like Georgia. But Kirby is elite, so that kind of taints how Richt is seen.

I wouldn’t say that about their QBs and WRs though . Guys with names like Kozlowski don’t strike fear in many

He has had plenty of talent. ND isn't some podunk program. I don't like the hire at all but I'm hoping for the best.

ND pundits believe Rees didn't utilize the WRs he had at ND enough.

I do like how Rees uses the RBs and TEs. But, that's it. I do know if he underutilizes the WRs at Bama Saban will get on his arse.

Rees has always wanted a stud QB. He'll have that at Bama. It's all on him to put the offense together.

So, are you saying that Alabama is going with an unproven offensive coordinator?

I mean how do you know this? Unless you are assuming since that is pretty much what every single OC in the country wants.

It's an unspectacular hire, but that doesn't necessarily mean it was a bad hire. Time will tell us that. He might turn out to be the best young offensive mind in college football.

Think of it this way. (I am borrowing from other posts you have made in this thread) Rees wanted (apparently) to leave ND. He left for a better school(Football wise) but what is essentially a lateral move. Money? maybe. I suspect Freeman did not give him complete control of the offense so he wanted out. So his not "utilizing his WR's" enough or any of the other criticisms that have been noted may not have been a failing on his part, but in keeping with his hands being tied at ND.

Just a thought.

It remains to be seen whether he will be worth the money, but Monken must like it, because, it may get him 3mil
