Has NIL, transfers, and lack of exposure for the SEC leveled the playing field?

The SEC is down and to that, there is no doubt but is this only a down season or will this be the new norm? I believe it is the new norm. Players will go where the money is and that will be to schools in major markets from the northeast to the west coast.

As the SEC will be limited to ESPN, recruits from poor homes will miss out on those schools and watch the games on the major networks.

Players will basically follow the money and exposure.

NIL & transfers have obliterated OL play. That + a down year for SEC QB’s is what we’re seeing.

Osu has looked amazing against Indiana and Youngstown. The western Kentucky game will give osu some big exposure too

meh.

Mullen did to UF what Jimbo did to FSU. The cupboard is bare.

A&M has Jimbo. There hasn't been a more overrated HC in my lifetime, IMO.

UNC probably has more talent than SC. They certainly have a better coaching staff.

bama losing like they did is the only shocking thing to me about the start of the year for the SEC.

This is just about the only thing you've said I would be inclined to agree with -- to a point.

I believe the SEC is down (but, our teams can still whip the Big 10's).

It is not the new norm.

Players will go to where the money is -- for the most part.

SEC may not be limited to ESPN. ABC Sports could very well end up being the primary carrier of SEC and ABC Sports has a much longer legacy of carrying college football than CBS Sports.

All in all, NIL/transfer portals will destroy college sports no matter the conference. Interest in college football is dropping nationwide, not just in certain selected markets.

No they would not. Ohio State, Penn State, and Michigan are superior to any 3 from the SEC. The only thing I can say in the SEC's favor is I'm not sure if any of our 3 can beat Georgia, who seems to be the top team again.

I believe ABC will become the main carrier of SEC games and ESPN continues to lose money fast. ABC will not be able to match ESPN's current and past payments in media deals which will force the SEC to find new partners.

Transfer portal evens the playing field big time. Recruiting means significantly less.

perhaps we should wait until after bowl season/playoffs to declare the sec is "down".

If it's hurting BAMA why wouldn't it hurt Georgia too? Does Georgia have richer, more active boosters?

One thing I could see hurting the SEC as far as NIL goes is it will be easier for Northern schools to pull recruits from the South now. Not wanting to play in cold weather used to be a thing, but now $$$ will trump that and it will be hard for schools in the south to build depth like before when their recruiting hotbed is getting cherry picked from all directions.

The same thing happened to Texas when the Big 12 realigned the first time and opened up the state big time to the SEC and BIG. There used to be a wall around the state and Texas and OU owned the recruiting when they were both top 5 teams..

LIt has, players will act like free agents in the future. Alabama is feeling this now. Georgia seems to keep a step ahead of everyone else.

Quarterback play is down because there are several new starters on the typical top SEC teams. We saw this same situation several years ago, 2014 is one example.
