No. And you sound dramatic.

The pageantry and quality of play is still worth it.

It is what it is...
I still root for LSU. Some of my passion is less than it had been, but on gameday I still watch and root, and want them to win.
It's not the same as when I was a kid, but I'm so sure it's due to NIL.
My favorite player as a kid was Dalton Hilliard, but ... I was a kid, and sports was more important to me. And back then, when a player made an impact as a freshman, you knew he'd be there 4 years. And that meant your entire middle school time, or your entire high school time. Which were complete phases of your life.
In that same period, if you were (relatively) lucky, an NFL team might have the same star players the entire course of both middle AND high school. Those guys became synonymous with franchises... I don't remember a Chargers QB before Fouts, or a Steelers QB before Bradshaw. Kinda remember Woodley at the Dolphins, but then Marino was there forever.
Now, my life isn't broken into 3 or 4 yr blocks, and players often don't stay that long anyway. So again, I root for the team, and whoever may be there. But I'm not attached to players anymore.

I think if we’re all being honest, how our teams are doing drives interest more than anything. For me, I’m very interested in football, not so much men’s basketball. With basketball and constant roster turnover with the portal/NIL it’s “who the hell are these guys?” But with football Golden is here for one year and he’s just a Horn.

I used to love college football. Now I just watch highlights, and spend time with the family on Saturdays instead. I hate what the "sport" has become.

Didn't realize it was already time for this week's version of this topic.

No, I still love football and Saturday nights.
I used to love recruiting though, and I couldn't care less about it now.
We need contracts and salary caps.
I don't care if the kids get paid- it's not my money. But I can't emotionally invest into a team that cycles through guys the way we all do now.
Trevor Etienne going from Florida to UGA.
Eli Ricks from LSU to Bama
Aaron Anderson from Bama to LSU
I hate it. I love true rivalries and hatred. This new world is gay af.
I hate the conferences too. Anytime you have conferences and UCLA and Rutgers are in one conference- you've fricked up.

No, but……
Now that the greed and hypocrisy of the athletic departments and coaches has been exposed by NIL, that ugliness is on display for everyone to see,…….and it looks bad. The players (and their families/agents) are showing that they can be just as greedy and self-serving - no reasonable person wants more of that.
I remain hopeful that we will reach an equilibrium soon that allows us to root for that same player for 3 or even 4 years on our favorite SEC teams.

The other side is this though: The best teams on paper don’t always win. No one has higher payrolls than the Yankees or Dodgers but they don’t win it every year. In fact it took the Dodgers years to finally break through despite having the fattest payroll, and the Yankees haven’t won since 2009.
Just saying it’s not automatic. Grit and heart often win the day.

That's right and I do too dammit!!
This is such deep-dive BS for all these poors to suddenly mock the game now that they're car lot level cheating ain't enough.
Bama, OU, LSU, etc. - all of 'em were world beaters "under the table" but now they can't beat Texas "across the table". So now they expect we should all just walk away from it.
No - y'all can walk your own sorry cheating arse away, we're still here to beat you at the game just as the way you were playing it.
The "ethics" train left the station and you mud state schools were driving the choo-choo. Now you're all softball fans.

Damn right I'm enjoying it.

You think LSU wasn't paying Joe Boreaux?

My passion for Arkansas football has taken a huge hit over the last decade but it has nothing to do with nil and the portal. Actually it’s those things that have kept us from going winless most likely…..

A judge should order all tax payerz funded universities to cancel all sports scholarships, since an university is for academia not sports.
Universities can run their sports clubs as professional organizations.

The current climate plus the recent stretch of suckage has made it difficult for this Hog fan. I watch or listen but care less and find myself focusing on the food and having people over. It’s sad because now I have the disposable income to do more away games, bowls, etc. I just give way less of a shite and would rather spend the money elsewhere.

We have gone from paying players under the table to paying players over the table.

It’s way beyond that. The portal and unlimited transfers are wrecking things.
