Has Any Basketball Coach Done Less With More Than John Calipari?

John Calipari has produced over 50 NBA players, including multiple #1 picks, NBA MVPs, and too many all-stars to list. Yet with all that talent he has only won a single national championship and made 4 final fours (two were vacated). Maybe even worse is that he missed the NCAA tourney multiple seasons with rosters that now look like a current day NBA roster.
Yes, he is in the Hall of Fame. He has won a lot of games. But has any coach in history actually accomplished less relative to the talent they coached than John Calipari?

Not sure but no one's done less with the start topic button than you.

It is quite hard to make the March madness final 4, even if you’re the best team

It's hard to win the tournament with a bunch of freshmen

You do realize that a high percentage of these players were freshman one and dones. Even Michigan with their fantastic five freshman didn’t win a national championship.

No doubt. But having the most talented team should make it a tad easier. These guys all had more final four appearances than Calipari, and many of them did it with less raw talent than Calipari has had over the years.

I am not saying Cal is a horrible coach, but he is much better at assembling talent than actually developing and coaching it. If you don’t believe me ask any Kentucky fan.

Thank you for your interest in John Calipari. I am surprised to see you here in light of this post of yours from yesterday.
Imagine my surprise to see you in a non-LSU thread.

I think we all agree that winning a national championship with a roster full of freshmen is a bad strategy.
Yet Cal keeps trying it. Over and over.
Insanity is continuing to beat your head against the same wall yet expecting a different outcome.
Michigan’s fab five have something else in common with some of Cal’s prior rosters.
