leaving LSU?

It’s been over 15 years and it’s still the thing that causes them the most pain.

No, it hasn't. Nothing else even approaches it. Fran to A&M would have been at that level, but thankfully he bombed there.

If Kiffin had left during the normal time frame OR had Hamilton had a backup plan since he knew Kiffin would leave for USC if it came open then it wouldn't have been so damaging. That made it program damaging not psychologically damaging but straight up setting a team back years just by moving at the wrong time. The psychic damage was an indirect result that had more to do with the panic hires and general idiocy that followed.

It will be much worse psych wise for bama fans when he’s finally gone.

I don't know. There will no doubt be some 80s era remorse and grieving, but no real "left at the alter" or "cuckold" type of damage that the OP is referring to in the thread.

If Saban finally leaves Bama for Texas, you'd have a point. But, he isn't going anywhere except to the house or a possible AD job.

I will also laugh my arse off when the next hire throws Saban 300k a year as an analyst on staff. He'll haunt some fans in the conference well after he is legit dead and buried, too much damage has been done. Hell, the first former assistant that finally beats him will no doubt get a new contract, raise and 5 more years of protection. That is where Saban has the SEC.

I contend it wasn’t Saban leaving that haunts LSU. I remember it well... it was returning to Alabama. Had he gone anywhere else it might not have been so fatal.

The root cause of Sabanitis is the longtime overwhelming LSU obsession with Alabama. The utter despair, wailing, gnashing teeth, at LSU against Alabama goes way back before Saban, maybe before Bryant.

It is something few in Alabama know about because of Auburn-Tennessee. Heck. LSU was just a conference game until I moved down here. But then I discovered the hate... what an amazing find.

There is another thing...a sick strain of blind homerism. Look at what the LUSer fans on here do to any Louisiana native that chooses to go out of state. Alabama loses a recruit, we move on. LSU? OMG - traitor for life.

And keep this in mind... if Saban didn’t go to Alabama, Florida keeps Urban and Urban keeps Cam... and Florida, not LSU, may have been the conference heavyweight.

He left but came back in the same division . Without Satan going to Bama when he did Les might of had two more championships in his pocket.

I'm not sure 2011 happens for LSU without Saban at Bama. Or, 2010 for AU.

Saban and his success in 2008 and 2009 made a drastic impact on the SEC west and ramped up recruiting and competition for all.

That said, which was the other year Les missed out on a championship due to Saban?

Why will it be worse? He's been at BAMA 14+ YRS now, not 3 and jumped ship for better opportunity. He won't come back to the same conference, same Div to coach against us... he's won 6(as of now) and will be retiring and go out as THE BEST EVER....You see the difference, Dolt? I feel the WORST thing that could have happened for all of College Football was him to test positive for COVID-19 this past season and have to sit at home for a week...it showed him what retiring would look like and He's damn sure not ready.

When the GOAT does leave, there will be NOTHING BUT RESPECT, ADMIRATION and true AAHHH at what he accomplished here....You will ALWAYS HAVE TO REMEMBER "What could have been" We WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER "What was". Big difference.... Anything else needs explaining?

No. Your writing tells me you’re either 13, or a deranged 70+ year old drunk.

Could be argued a bigger psychiatric issue that triggers you guys is LSU for some strange reason.

1) I think Saban does trigger LSU fans. To the extent Bama fans think though? Maybe not. It’s not like LSU disappeared after he left, they’ve been more than successful and won two additional national championships.

2) Why the need or urge to talk about it, after having the greatest season in school history and having the number one recruiting class? After however many national championships Alabama has, I would assume the fan base would “act like they’ve been there before.” Instead, a large portion of you waste your days talking about a team that went 5-5 this past season.

Definitely damaged the psyche of some LSU fans. For most of the ones I know personally they wish Saban was still at LSU but aren't tore up about it. They won 2 since he left so it really is distant history for most of them.

They are a lot more comments about Orgeron being a one hit hit wonder with Joe B. Seems to be the more reasonable assessment to me as well.

I’d argue it cost LSU two championships, UGA two championships and UF at least one if not two championships because I don’t think Urban melts down as fast if his 2009 team isn’t emasculated in the SECCG. No way Texas without McCoy beats 2009 Florida.

You are aware you're the one who brought this up? I replied to YOUR statement "damaging our psyche" with a view from OUR FANBASE....not through some idiot's (your)hazed purple and gold glasses who see's what could have been....are you stupid? This is called keeping the retards in check and I have to do it every once n a while. Although the past decade+ I seem to have been more active
