I don't think anyone outside of immediate fans knew who Perkins was until last week and outside of the SEC many probably still don't know who he is. Myles Garrett had a much higher profile from the start and an entire hype machine built in to go with his great play.
How that pans out I have no idea but Perkins looks to be coming into his own. I doubt he has time to catch that freshman performance but a lot more than individual play goes into it. With football the players around you, allow you to chase records.
It's why all the arguments about who is GOAT at what position are really flawed. We're not talking about MLB pitching stats where it's about the individual and occasionally the batters if someone comes up during an exceptional time frame.

But he was never any threat to leave Louisiana. Players like that don't get much attention nationally because they're not really in the recruiting game. They list others recruiting them just to have hats down but everyone knows its a foregone conclusion.

Bruh, he’s from Texas which is why A&M fans are so salty about him.
He was a 5 star and #1 linebacker in his class. He had plenty of hype coming out of high school
