word on the street in amite during his freshman season was that smith was going to transfer after the season. He had the game winning score and was the big hero so he stayed.

Did you hear that from the barber?

Hard to disagree about OL but I have seen several OL step in as Freshman and have an impact especially at OT

That is mostly athleticism and talent. The interior line make or break the productivity of the unit. Game snaps matter for the unit as a whole, but Center is the key and the guards seal the unit whether in pass protection or getting blocks into the second level to spring the RB.

Yep,I think center is probably correct.
We lost a guy who had started 30+ games at the position and we weren't close to the production we had with the 1st year player

Strength is big problem for freshmen there. Some are talented enough to play....but it's hard when you haven't been in a college strength program long and the guy across the line has been in one for three or four years.

Man you see freshman corners starting, and playing well in this league, every year. It's O Line.

Mentally or physically?
Physically I’d say interior of the D line. Mentally? Maybe WR because now all of a sudden there is a comparable athlete lined up across from you unlike just about any time in HS

Stingley, Pat Peterson, Kevin Tolliver, Rashard Robinson, Donte Jackson, Kardel Flott - were all pretty decent or very decent as True Freshmen at DBU.
Meanwhile, I can remember the last OL we had start.

Disagree , WR is not the hardest.
OL,
Safety
MLB
All seem pretty tough

After QB any of the Defensive back 7

We’ve had a ton of freshmen OL start in the last decade. Granted, most of them were 5 stars

ILB on defense. It's the position that makes all the calls and reads. If you see a freshman in that position, it's probably due to injury, or there is another more experienced one next to them doing all the calls.
Pretty much see Freshman play the other positions from time to time on defense.
I would have to guess center on offense. I've seen freshman come in at other positions pretty regularly. I've seen true freshman OT, OG and TE, but you just don't see at Center.
WR and RB have freshman playing all the time, much more often than lineman.

Honestly I think WR and RB would be two of the easiest.

Middle Linebacker in a situation where you are the sole play caller and check guy
Honestly, I think it's harder than QB. Freshmen QBs can almost have the game calling and checks taken out of their hands by the sideline in the modern game - middle linebackers cannot. Offense dictates tempo and therefore the QB can do the whole call the play, look at defense, look to sideline for the check, call the check, run the play. Defense is at the mercy of the offense for tempo, therefore the ILB can't very easily check to the sideline for verification of his check call.
It's ALL on him.

Offensive line by far. Freshman, no matter how athletic are going up against bigger faster stronger upper classmen with complex blocking schemes. In high school these kids at best faced one or two talented people across the line..in the SEC they are facing an entire team of talented players.
