Tennessee because they're so competitive every year and all

And LSU was extremely competitive in the 90s, right? It's not necessarily about how competitive the "rival" program is currently. It's about the longevity and history between the two programs.

I'd rank them as follows:

1) Auburn
2) Tennessee
3) Georgia (Sad we don't play them anymore)
4) Florida (Always hated the Gators since Spurrier)
5) LSU

Thus, the LSU game will likely never match the Iron Bowl or The Third Saturday in October as far as rivalries go.

I don't disagree. But I could see LSU creeping up and potentially overtaking the Bama/Tennessee rivalry if Tennessee consistently remains mediocre for a little while and/or if the schedule removes them from Bama's yearly rotation. Things do change, it would also be shortsighted to think they don't.

There's certainly a hefty level of dislike between LSU/Bama right now but I do think it would be premature to think that persists past the Saban tenure, though it's possible. I can't really speak for Bama fans but if LSU and Bama remained at comparable levels competing for the West year in year out for the next decade, it could generate some lasting animosity.

Supposedly A&M and LSU are former rivals though so maybe that emerges again. I'm too young to really give a shite about Texas A&M and any so called rivalry there used to be with them.

True, but lack of competition can spell a rivalry's death. LSU/Ole Miss for example and LSU/Tulane.

Some LSU fans still hate Ole Miss but I don't know any my age or younger, that's for sure. Though I believe Ole Miss fans still dislike us pretty vigorously.

It would literally have to take another 30 years for that to happen.

He said 5 times in the 90's. Thus I presume he wasn't starting the clock in 1999.

1999 was our last time in the SECCG until 2008. So a lot of people thought it was still a pretty good rivalry as late as roughly 2002.

If you were born after 1978 then Auburn is likely the top rival. If you were born prior to 1979 or live in northeast Alabama then UTk is likely the top rival. If you live in Southwest Alabama then LSU is likely considered to be a bigger rival than UTk.

For me UTk is top / Auburn is second / LSU is the game that always seems to be competative and fun for the fans / LSU game is usually a clean but very hard fought game

It would take a while and is unlikely to happen, but it is possible.

If this were to happen then the above scenario is more likely.

Yeah, I don't think you get the whole rivalry concept.

No one really does. Anyone who says that is either from Tennessee or trying to piss off Auburn fans.

I'm glad we could have a thread for everyone to tell us who our rival is.

As someone else said, rivalries change. Do i hate tulane? We are "historically" rivals with them. But they blow now, and have for a WHILE. Thus, I don't really care one way or the other, because we ALWAYS beat them

Same with Ole Miss. You tend to hate teams less when you beat them all the time. For a fanbase that doesn't see LSU as a "historical rival", your fanbase sure is bitter towards LSU. I can't tell you how many mean mugs and "rawwtahhhhd!'s" i got while wearing my LSU shirt during the 2011 season in Mobile

Nope. I live in Alabama and in my area, Bama-UT is still a big deal.

Back in the 90's living in extreme North Alabama, I hated Tennessee with every fiber of my being. AU was just an annoyance. And I'm a pretty young guy. I'm pretty ambivalent towards Tennessee now, but a lot of the older crowd still have harsh feelings.

It actually sums up the Alabama fanbase quite nicely IMO
