Circa 2008:

Bama/UF has been rescheduled and relocated to a postseason matchup in the Georgia Dome. This game will be known as the "SEC Championship Game". Expect this to be around for a while.

So by just a few years ago he meant 20 years ago? I thought he was talking about circa the Tebow era.

Plus it's almost impossible to have a rivalry with a cross divisional team that you don't face every year. That's more obviously a temporary thing to face a team in the champ game that many times in a short period.

Or whoever they're betting more times than not between the two at the time they're asked.

AU/UF certainly isn't what it used to be, but some of it's still there

No, there's really not, unless you are paranoid that people are always trying to slight you.

Well of course it's going to be a big game and draw excitement, because it is two premier SEC teams. LSU/Georgia draws excitement too but they'll never be true rivals outside of some unforeseen conference structural changes.

Not what I'm saying.

We're also Florida's oldest SEC rival and played annually until 2002. Florida wanted to keep us instead of y'all, but we had to keep the SOR.

I'm surprised to hear a couple of you say that, I've always thought the Iron Bowl was the best rivalry in football.

You didn't see the roll ducks roll shirts before UT and oregon's matchup in 2010?

Have the auburn fans come in spewing this same bullshite by saying our biggest rival is uga?

Who the frick made this argument about UF? Bama and UF didn't even play every year.
Who the frick are you? People were talking about UF/Bama in the championship game for the foreseeable future. They also played 3 or 4 straight years and short term/reactionary types were discussing it.

1999 is only 12 years ago. We also had a big game in 2005 against them. Then throw in 08 and 09 and you have a lot of huge games with a lot on the line over just 20 years.

Eta: All 7 times bama has been to the SECCG, they had to play Florida.

I wasn't saying that no idiots were saying it, I was insinuating that one would have to essentially be a "short term/reactionary type" to actually believe it.

So dry your pussy off.

He said 5 times in the 90's. Thus I presume he wasn't starting the clock in 1999.

That was the obvious point I was making by saying it. The same people think LSU might supplant AU or UT simply because LSU and Bama have had some very meaningful games in the last couple of years. However, the league is cyclical and UA and LSU won't be the favorites for the SECW every year like the reactionaries think. It never works that way in the SEC. Thus, the LSU game will likely never match the Iron Bowl or The Third Saturday in October as far as rivalries go.
