I prefer the Tennessee but both are awesome. The Cumberland though, is underrated, even for Tennessean's.

Mississippi easy........ 2,300 miles of rich history vs 652 miles and is the largest tributary of the Ohio River( Screw Ohio)

The Mississippi is obviously more important to the country as a whole.. The Tennessee is the lifeline for industry, electrical power and distribution of goods throughout the south.

The Tennessee River and TVA brought much of the south kicking and screaming into the modern era. For that reason alone it is more southern than the Mississippi. When the REA tossed a creosote pole out in front of the house folks in the south experienced a life and culture change that was unprecedented in the experience of mankind.
