Yeah but I'm pretty sure Tua would cause Nebraska even way more serious problems. Those players never even defended the spread

They shut down Florida at the height of the Spurrier era. I'm pretty sure handling a high powered passing attack wouldn't be an issue

The GOAT conversation ship has sailed. Bama's schedule was simply too soft

Miami in 01 would have a case, but Nebraska was too one dimensional on offense to be considered the best ever.

A few counterpoints:

1) When discussing GOAT teams, it ruins the conversation to compare eras. If a team of yesteryear ran an archaic offense or had smaller players or whatever, it doesn’t really matter because we can only analyze how that team competed and performed in the context of their era. Nebraska’s offense might have been innovative or perfect for the mid 90s sort of how what Bama is doing on offense is unique for 2018.

2) Nebraska might have been one dimensional based on eye test, but they ran the triple option with NFL athletes. That’s still a very difficult offense to defend and no one with elite players runs it nowadays. 2013 Auburn came close to running an option-like offense and they had plenty of success against some great defenses that year.

Ohio State won that title on a egregious call.

Jury is out. The fact of the matter is that Bama has played a pretty soft schedule overall.

Their best win by far was 29-0 over #10 LSU in Baton Rouge.

But after that, they beat the #18, #19, and #24 teams all at home.

If Bama closes out the year beating #4 Georgia, #5 Oklahoma, and #2 Clemson all by comfortable margins, then yes I could get on board with ranking this Bama team as one of the greatest CFB teams of all time.

But if Bama wins each of those games by 7 points or so.... consider them a very good team that just so happened to play a relatively easy regular season schedule.

As much as I hate Bama I think this might be true.

This Bama team would easily beat either 2005 USC or Texas teams.

We got an elite 4 deep backfield. It would be the best running attack Nebraska 95 had ever seen by a wide margin

Uhm probably quite a large gap between Florida's passing attack in 95 and Bama's in 2018. Juat offense overall. UF OL wasn't anything close to Bama's bro.

They're likely going to finish the year with three consecutive teams that will finish in the top 10.

Comparison of 1995 Nebraska vs. 2018 Bama Opponents by SRS from strongest to weakest

Florida 22.59 vs. Georgia 22.89 (Slight advantage Bama)

Colorado 16.91 vs. Missouri 15.22 (Advantage Nebraska)

Kansas State 15.13 vs. LSU 14.70 (Slight advantage Nebraska)

Kansas 11.61 vs. Mississippi State 13.70 (Advantage Bama)

Michigan State 7.68 vs. Texas A&M 11.97 (Advantage Bama)

Arizona State 2.94 vs. Auburn 9.25 (Big Advantage Bama)

Oklahoma 0.88 vs. Ole Miss 3.19 (Advantage Bama)

Washington State -2.01 vs. Arkansas State 2.10 (Advantage Bama)

Oklahoma State -2.89 vs. Tennessee 1.15 (Advantage Bama)

Missouri -5.87 vs. Louisiana -1.06 (Advantage Bama)

Iowa State -6.05 vs. Arkansas -4.20 (Advantage Bama)

Pacific -15.61 vs. The Citadel FCS (Advantage Nebraska, Bad FBS team > Bad FCS team)

I don't know how anybody can say 1995 Nebraska > 2018 Bama based on strength of schedule. Nebraska's top opponents were better but Bama's overall schedule is clearly tougher. Add in the fact that Bama will have to beat two top teams in the CFB Playoff to win it all and it's a virtual certainty that their strength of schedule will end up being stronger than 1995 Nebraska's.

Though I know option teams rarely pass it is still noteworthy that the 95 Nebraska team gave up 0 sacks all year, and if I remember correctly, the whole starting offensive line ended up getting drafted eventually.

Alabama is the first team basically ever (1880s Yale team) to win its first 12 games all by 20+ points.

We remember 95 Nebraska destroying Florida but Alabama has destroyed EVERYONE.

If Alabama wins all 15 games by 20+ there is no denying it that they will be the GTOAT

Probably this Bama team. You couldn’t cheat 20 years ago like you can today. Bama’s two deep depth chart is almost all 5 stars. Back in the day the NCAA would have dropped the hammer on this Bama team.

Why would Bama have to cheat? When u have won 5 outta 9 NCs to combine with the fact Bama has the most players in the NFL I mean the University sells itself....
