Saban. The scholarship limits make the game entirely different
There were other factors back then too. Bear won 3 NC's without any black players. Say what you will about segregation but he really didn't have a choice in Alabama in 61',64' and 65'. Not with the governor standing in the door blocking the first black students in 1963.
But, I'd still give it to Saban. He's been a lot more consistent. Bear had two 6-5 seasons in a row before unleashing the wishbone in 1970 and going on another run. Saban's bad year is 11-2 and not going to the PO's.

Ok. I’ve read all the posts so far. I think you have to say Saban is the best. That is clearly the consensus. Lot of good points. I still don’t like him the least but. I respect him, but him leaving LSU for the Dolphins was his biggest mistake. He has admitted that. Still, he could have gone to almost any school he wanted. He had to pick Bama, in our own division. I feel that was disrespectful to LSU. Coach O comin.

Correct answer is Pat Dye.

Sagarin did go back and declare Kentucky the 1950 champion. Of course about 5 other schools claimed it that year too.

I'll go with Saban as well.
I was thrilled Huizenga lured him there at the time.
LSU was more than likely on their way to multiple Natty's had he stayed.
He comes back to the SEC in 07 & wins 5 more Natty's at Bama who were stuck in medocrity till his 2nd season 08.

Make no mistake he rebuilt Alabama.

Seriously though, what Bryant did, when and where he did it, in a wayyyy rougher era of football with society drastically changing simply transcends whatever Saban did or is doing. In many ways, Bear Bryant might single-handedly be responsible for what football as a whole is today. I mean he's fricking John Wooden/Red Auerbach of football.
