Bear Bryant:
Overall Record: 323-85-17 ties. .780 win%
Alabama Record: 232-46. .824 win%
6 National Titles

Nick Saban:
Overall Record: 248-65-1 tie. .791 win%
Alabama Record: 157-23. .872 win%
6 National Titles (1 at LSU and 5 at Bama)

Tough call. Of course, Saban not done yet. Who ya got? P.S. hope numbers are up to date. If not, I’m sure you will let me know.

He was great to and there were a few others, but I believe The Bear and Saban are in a class by themselves.

I never saw Bear coach but I find it hard to believe he'd have the same success over the last 10-12 years as Saban. Bear had unlimited scholarships and could manipulate the game way easier than Saban.

College football's landscape is much tougher and more competitive today IMO, which is why Saban gets the nod.

What Saban has done in this era of college football is unprecedented and may never be duplicated. He has to do a lot more to be able to get the same results. The guy is amazing.

Tom Osborne.
255-49-3
60-3 and three national championships in his last five seasons.
Winning percentage (83.6%) .
He won 250 games faster than any coach in Division I-A history.
And he did it in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Also frick Bama.

1. So did everyone else
2. So could everyone else

I am by no means saying that Bear > Saban but the above arguments that have often been used against Bryant when comparing him to more modern coaches are really foolish. All of Bryant's legendary contemporaries from Bud Wilkinson to Ara Parseghian to Woody Hayes were all playing under the same set of rules.

Tom Osborne was great. Didn’t realize he had that great of a record. Of course, I was at the Orange Bowl in ‘83 when they beat us at the end and also at Sugar Bowl when they beat us. He’s right up there, but 3 championships do t equal 6

Tom Osborne would be a good choice but he way too frequently blew the big games. He had multiple opportunities to win a national championship in the 80s and failed when the stage was too big. It took Oklahoma being down in the 90s for him to finally put together the run we saw from Nebraska from 1993-1997.

Osborne coached 122 less games than Bryant. Considering he quit at the top of his game (3 championships in last 5 years) I'm sure he would have won 3 or more in another ten years.

I mentioned Rockne because he revolutionized the importance of college football and improved his University. Before Rockne, Notre Dame was just another run of the mill Catholic University. Now it’s a National University.

Between Saban and Bear it’s going to always be Bear. Bama fans still dress up like Bear at media days.
