That was a long stretch
It was, many dark days. You'd get excited about the season coming up in spite of knowing better and then it would start all over again.
But on the flip side, that 16 year stretch still isn't as long as Tennessee's recent streak under us.

If not for baggage, Jim McElwain would win at Alabama.
In his only two full seasons at Florida he went 10-4 and 9-4 and won the SEC east both seasons.

No doubt. Buffalo Wild Wings has tons of TV’s so he will be able to keep up with all the games during his Saturday shifts.

Don’t forget who dominated this rivalry from Pat Dye until saban arriving.
We might be heading back to those days.

It will be so weird playing Texas in the Liberty Bowl this season.

Surely they can't lose 6 with the most talent in the country. I'm thinking 8-4.
I think LSU could lose that game, with it being on the road and DeBoer actually gameplanning vs ranked teams.

Hugh Freeze might get caught with a dead hooker this week.
The odds are about the same.
Also, during the period you mention, 1981-2006, Auburn led the series 15-11.
Calling that domination is quite the hyperbole.

I think it's a little premature to write Bama's obituary.
They still have loads of talent and could still put enough together to do some damage.

Many of us survived Mike Dubose. We can survive anything.
Debose didn’t follow Bear Bryant. That’s the huge difference.
I’m old enough to remember the outrage from Bama fans when Ray Perkins took over and fired Mal Moore, Bobby Marks and Dee Powell from the Bear’s staff. Bama fans were beyond outraged when Alabama went 8-4 and 5-6 in his first two seasons. And… there was no social media and 24/7 sports talk shows back then.

5-5 in last 10. Getting slowly used to it.

Maybe not dominated but we controlled the rivalry and were the lead dog.

I would tend to agree, but playing devil's advocate, you could also end up with a Billy Napier situation (who I actually like).
I think we've shied away from the nepotism route as a direct result of Saban coming in and abolishing that system at Alabama, so for better or worse it probably wasn't happening this time.
That makes sense and it's probably unlikely for decision makers to take a fan-like perspective regardless of how likely it was to prove true (ie, that the successor was destined to have a short tenure). And that's really the premise for rolling with the next man up to live off the Saban fumes before going through a rebuild.

Bama will still win 9-10 games this season. I doubt that's enough to make the move.

We’ve lived through 4-7 and 3-8 seasons. Won’t like it, but we’ll survive.
