Probably already been discussed but why was that game cancelled and not the Alabama Texas game?

Oklahoma vs Tennessee game was also canceled as well. The SEC claimed something about the scheduling would be conflicting once Oklahoma joined the conference and neither UGA or UT would be able to complete the home and home series before they joined the conference. It’s almost the SEC already knew that Texas and Oklahoma would be joining early.

The return game was in 2031.

If the SEC thought that they would not have forced Georgia to cancel the game in Norman, but hey, don't let me harsh your delusion.

Texas has been calling the shots for the operation of the SEC since 2021.

This. Would have caused headaches and inequities in future scheduling, so we get a shot schedule this year in hopes for something consistently better thereafter

To actually answer the OP, the Bama-Texas home-and-home will be completed this year, before the expansion takes place.
The UGA-OU home-and-home would’ve been incomplete because the game in Athens would’ve been this year, but OU would’ve never gotten their home game. Basically, it was to prevent one party whining about lost revenue when it comes time to put the schedule together.

Actually the game was to be in Norman this year so who’s the whiner now?

well it was always known they'd be joining prior to 2031, so that's why our game was canceled.

Guess they forgot the B2B trips UGA had to make to Auburn last time?

UGA vs OU was a home and home where the second part was after OU was joining the SEC. UGA vs Texas was a home and home where both parts were after Texas was joining the SEC. Those series were cancelled.
Texas vs Bama is a home and home finishing this year, so it's done before Texas joins the SEC. It wasn't cancelled.

The return game was in like ‘31
Both schools wanted it, the SEC office wanted it cancelled because if scheduling.. which I don’t get.. why does it matter?

that isn't relevant to this topic. If we played OU next year it'd be a non conference game. When they cmae to Athens, no matter what year it is althgouh it'd be scheduled for 2031, it would be a conference game.
That is the issue. That we would essentially be gonig on the road to play an OOC game with no return trip.
