You guys are arguing about transfer QBs in general, but Newman is a very specific kind of transfer QB. He's not comparable to Fields, who transferred as a sophomore, or Burrow, who had two years of eligibility
What's the hit rate for grad transfer QBs with one year of eligibility?

Weaknesses on the 2019 defense were as follows
Lack of elite depth on DL. Jordan Davis is elite against the run and pass. But lack of dominance behind him affected the identity on the defense when he wasn't on the field.
Youth. We had freshmen flying all over the field. Against LSU, Nakobe Dean was a spy on Burrow. Burrow would flinch to his right like he was going to pass, Dean shoulders to the sideline in that direction, and Burrow used that head start to scramble for 10+ down the left sideline.
We had a lot of injuries at DB last season. Similar to the DL, the depth was good/serviceable. But spreading a defense to nickel and dime where backups (6th, 7th, 8th best DBs are getting important reps) is a tough task for a defense.
I don't think it ranks as an all time defense. It has that potential this coming season as the youth issue will be less glaring (#1 recruiting class will be juniors. Last years freshmen will be starters).

Bama's "D" was better with all those freshmen playing for the injured stars
lol what? Bama didn’t even have the best defense in the SECw. UGA’s defense was much better. As far as not playing anyone, didn’t UGA play more ranked opponents than Bama?

lol MuLLLen is 0-3 against smart and has yet to score more than 17. Tennessee will be a tougher out than Florida.

Statistically they did

Wasn’t there a graphic that showed the lack of good QBs they had to play?

Depends on what metric you use. According to SP+ UGA has the best defense in the SEC with Bama finishing first in the west, but still behind UGA. Total defense still has UGA above bama, along with UF and Missouri. so still first in the west, but now fourth total in the SEC. Then you have DFEI which has UGA first in the SEC followed by Auburn.

Last part of my post. Also gave the link to it.
So like I said, depends on metric used. If you want to use any of the previous ones besides DFEI, then Bama was first in the SECw. DFEI has them behind Auburn in the west.
