Some stats on Georgia's defense last year:
- allowed more than 14 pts in regulation only to LSU (South Carolina got to 17 in regulation on a pick 6)
- Allowed two rushing touchdowns all season and none by RBs (has that ever been done?)
- three shutouts

Where would they rank on a best ever list? 2003 LSU, 2004 Auburn, 2011 Bama and 2016 Bama come to mind in the SEC.

Could they somehow be even better next season? They return almost everyone. Bama at Tuscaloosa will be tough even with Tua gone. They have a massive talent edge against everyone in the East

It's certainly possible they can be better considering they return a large chunk of the defense. If our offense could improve the defense can be even better.

They didn't play anybody and Bama's "D" was better with all those freshmen playing for the injured stars. I wasn't impressed with their defense or AU'S "vaunted" d.

Give me BAMA or LSU'S "D" all day long. Even the Vols for that matter.

Doubtful, Mullen should has his players now. I think we'll go 4-8. Honestly, I just hope we can make a bowl game.

You seem like the type of guy who loves the "D" all day long.

Other than being stupid, I am unsure why you singled VOLS out in that post.

ESPN’s SP+ projections have VOLS defense ranked ahead of both Bama and LSU

Not gonna lie. That performance vs Indiana was legendary.

Very good rush defense. Not as great vs the pass. Bit “bend but don’t breakish”. Should be better this year. We rotate so many people, not really any stars on defense.

We played a tougher schedule than you did...by quite a bit.

Yeah it seemed like a defense that gradually suffocates you, like Chavis' did. Which is surprising considering Smart being on Saban's staff for so long

Why are you putting D in quotation marks? Are you stupid?

Georgia had a very impressive Defense btw

Smart has never been a big pressure guy, used to drive Bama fans nuts and does me sometimes as well. Our OLBs always seemed to be a half second too late on the blitzes. Many of the big talents (Nolan Smith, Ojulari, Trayvon Walker) were just getting their first significant time. I am very excited about our defense this year. Hoping for more pressure and that they close that half step on the blitz.

Pressure on the passer is what made the D so good last year.

LSU had the 23rd Best Defense

ESPN is clueless.

In the last 4 games, LSU mercilessly crushed ranked teams starting with:

TAMU 50-7
Georgia 37-10
Oklahoma 63-28
Clemson 42-25

Allowing 1 passing TD

You can play with stats all you want, but no defense in America came even close to the Dave Aranda led Tigers in those last 4 games when everyone was back playing and healthy

Then why does the post say 2019?

And why doesn’t your link say it’s the 2020 season.

It doesn’t say 2019. And why would someone make projections for a season that has already happened?
