Well that sucks.

He could possibly make it back in time for the season though right?

No. He has probably played his last snap at UGA.

From the article linked:

Sources have told Dawg Sports that Pickens tore an ACL, but we are waiting for the university to confirm. If true, Pickens would almost certainly be out for the opening stretch of UGA’s season, and likely not be able to return until December or January.

I would not count on it, unfortunately. Wouldn’t give him enough time to recover.

Damn that's awful. I was really looking forward to seeing him play this year.

Game 1 if it were Saban's timeline

Kidding, it says December/January so maybe SEC Championship/Bowl season... Rooting for the kid

If UGA can beat Clemson, their schedule sets up nicely.

You hear about players coming back these days closer to 6 months than 9.

That said with the future he has he’ll probably end up sitting out the year

This will be a huge loss for UGA. With only a bit more than five months until opening weekend, I can't imagine he will play this season. He could be back in December or January, but unless UGA is in the playoffs, there would be no reason for him to hurry back to play a bowl game.

Average time for return to competition from an ACL tear is currently just shy of 8 months. That would be mid-November, so I'm going to guess he'll be in the NFL the next time we see him playing.

Is that the WR that got suspended then picked a fight the next game?

I couldn't blame him, if he goes that route. He's a star receiver for sure.

This has been the recent trend. The kind of surgery they are doing now must be leaps and bounds above the surgery I got at Athens Orthopedic just five years ago when I tore my ACL, because I couldn't even return to my daily runs for four or five months after surgery.

Of course, you would expect orthopedic surgery for top athletes to be better than the likely relatively traditional surgery I got. Also, they're top athletes with much stronger legs than normal people, which surely helps with rehab.
