Geoff Collins: What TN did to stop one of the nations hottest offenses

Tennessee's green dot linebacker was Collins linebacker at UNC.
Alabama offense’s total yards gained in the last four games: 567, 489, 483, 346.
On Saturday in Knoxville, Tennessee, you know what their total was? 201.
I called defenses in the SEC. That’s insane.
Alabama was averaging 182.5 rushing yards per game heading into Saturday. Tennessee held them to less than 30% of that.

This has happened in all three years under DeBoer. The offense is cruising the first half then all of a sudden, when we hit better competition the wheels and headlights fall off. So, I didn't even watch the video because my guess is the crux of it comes down to, the more film Alabama puts on display the more teams watch and make adjustments. The problem is Alabama's staff isn't making any adjustments.

If you didn't watch, then why even comment.

Because it doesn't matter. I don't have to watch it because this same type of thing has happened in all three years under DeBoer. The staff is unable to make adjustments when the rest of the conference makes them on us. So what does it really matter what UT did? What UT did wasn't the problem, the real problem is our staff.

Against teams that can play defense. This offense and quarterback are a steamy, Walmart parking lot shite diaper.

Almost feels like every year we play against UGA, they come out in the second half and give the rest of the teams on our schedule a very simple recipe on how to play us on both sides of the ball.
Ready for no UGA on the schedule next year so we can test that hypothesis.

Bama lost to Ou then beat them at their place in a playoff game.

They did, then got their arse handed to them by Indiana and looked like they didn't even practice for the game. That's the problem and has been DeBoer teams' problem every where he's gone. He struggles from having a great successful game without rolling out a "sh*t your pants" game shortly thereafter. This past weekends game looked just like all of DeBoer's teams have looked and done everywhere he's gone. The pattern of inconsistency has been very consistent.

Put up 100 more yards on UGA than what they average giving up and left more on the field.

I think that had more to do with Mateer melting in the rematch. Also a VERY opportune special teams frick up right before he got baited into throwing it into a trap flat defender.

Hard to argue with that. I think it's the Qb centric offense. He needs to learn to lean on the run game more in tough times.

I do want to just insert - Kentucky is looking pretty good AND South Carolina handled a hot Florida team that has defeated TX and Ole Miss. These aren't victories to sneeze at

The problem is the consistent theme that this staff will have “the book” get out on them and fall apart around halfway through the season.
It is another sign that this staff is in above their heads. They seem to not understand the other team practices and watches tape too. They roll the same stuff out every week and it gets predictable. Doesn’t hurt that if you hold a run to fewer than 4 yards once early in the game our mental midget in a sweater vest up in the booth will abandon the run.

It seems that way.
If you watch the video Coach collins explains Knowles is running a version of Monte Kiffins Tampa 2. Many people are saying the Gilliam nose tackle is the best in the nation. It showed on Saturday.

I believe losing the center and not having a d lineman to simulate Gilliam in good on good with Waldrap this week hurt.

That's my biggest gripe. Plus they don't feed the Rb who has the hot hand.

To say the least. Gilliam #2 made whatever else Tennessee did defensively hardly matter.
I watched that Brooks guy and some of these breakdowns.
Seems the main issue every single big play they choose is #2 racing by or just pushing Waldrep or Carroll straight back on their arse within a second of the snap.
My main takeaway from both those videos is that we've improved on Oline this year if Delgatty is at center. Without him, looked just like last year.

Right, but I think we make it easier for a team that is well coached to feature their best players because we are predictable and can be easily gamed into abandoning the run to make us even more predictable. Teams are defending counter games we play better and haven’t shown a complimentary run play that we run well.

Yeah that's the long and short of it. We run the same shite every single week. There is never a deviation in the plan. Once the plan is on tape 4 or 5 times it gets picked apart, teams start to copy each other, and the wheels fall off because there is no adaptation. The only example of this staff making a meaningful adjustment to the offense to try to get it out of the ditch was Sheridan spamming QB keepers with Milroe to generate a run game.
