I don't know, last year our opponents conversion ratio was 37% and UGa's was 34% so not that far off. This year UF is at about the same and UGa is a little better, but imo UF has had a little tougher schedule that UGa so far.

I think the biggest thing about 3rd and Granthem was...lets say it was 37% when he was at UGA.

37% of those 3rd and longs would ALWAYS be at the worst possible time you could imagine hahah. At least it felt like that

I see our problem as players who are just not making plays or getting too many PI's called

This comes from his scheme. Blitz like crazy and put your DB’s on a island, they are out of position and don’t want to give up a huge TD. He does not teach proper tacking methods, the players are either blowing someone up, or trying to arm tackle (Miami game).
When he arrived at UGA, I was personally excited for his aggressive play calling and attitude. After years of the Willie Martinez nickel zone it was a change, but not a good one..

From what my Ga friends said his defensive schemes were way too complicated. Too much confusion and players would get lost in the chaos and give up huge plays in the secondary.

You are tied with arkansas for last in conference play on opponents 3rd down conversions. Good thing that your toughest conference opponents are behind you.

It was fine as long as you had an upperclassmen team. Everything went to shite when UGA had a bunch of freshmen playing in 2013.

2012 had issues too, but imo that had more to do with poor defensive depth (which then showed itself with the inability to reload in 2013).

Depth was a small part of it.
Grantham lives and dies with the aggressive nature. When he can't keep opponents in obvious run or pass scenarios, his defenses get torched. That is why a balanced team is going to run up so many points.

It became obvious vs Florida in 2010.

that is undoubtedly part of the problem. One of our DBs, maybe Swann? (can't remember for sure) said when he got to the NFL his playbook was about half the size of Grantham's at UGA. If you go back and watch film on 2011-2012 UGA you will see countless examples of our linebackers looking to the sideline as the ball is being snapped not knowing what to do. In 2012 we were megatalented at the starting positions on D so it wasn't as big of an issue but still, that's not what you're looking for.

I think he doesn't trust our secondary honestly. He was more aggressive on third down last year til Henderson went down. Then our defense got lit up like Swiss cheese.

Thanks dawgs...that is what I was afraid of. Oof...year is getting even longer.

In fairness, Florida has great DBs, so putting them on an island with a blitz heavy scheme might work out very well for you. At the time we had decent DBs but nowhere near what you guys have.

What bothered me the most about them during that time is how often the defensive backfield players would be holding their arms up at each other before the snap. It was obvious that quite often they didn't have any idea what they were supposed to do.

Every. Single. Play.

I'd be interested to see Granthams 3rd and 10+ efficiency rate against good teams. He did fine on the 3rd and shorts/mediums but for longer pass plays we'd have players running around with their hands up or have major soft spots in our zone.

I think I am starting to see it...amazing defensive series on 1st and 2nd then seems to go into prevent mode on 3rd out the blue with 50 minutes left in the game

Exactly the opposite. He likes to bring 7 on 3rd and 15 leaving a wide open receiver to easily convert the first down
