I still don't understand why any school would sign anything that locks them in for 15 years when they see how quickly the landscape is changing. What a truly stupid move.
FSU has been like an emotional teenage girl ever since the last round of SEC expansion.
Action: A&M & Missou move to the SEC
Response:
instead of trying to get a seat at the table in the SEC or B10 they throw a fit that they are making less in the ACC.
The conference renegotiates with ESPN, gets an offer for a better but still not competitive deal.
Again, in an emotional decision, they decide to sign a 15 year GOR that a teenager knew would be non-competitive almost immediately instead of addressing the real issue which is that the ACC isnt collectively as valuable from a media perspective.
Action: Texas and OU to SEC, Playoffs to expand to 12
Response:
In another emotional fit of rage the brain trust in Clemson and Tallahassee meltdown and demand the playoff expansion be held off another year and instead of trying to actually negotiate with ESPN on a soft landing and early exit from the ACC sit back smugly thinking they stuck it to the new SEC by pushing off the playoffs by another year.
Action: FSU is excluded from the playoffs
Response: yet another emotional temper tantrum and display of self destructive decision making will likely make their situation even worse as they threaten to rage quit the conference without any means by which to actually do so.
Culturally and geographically they would fit the conference, but their leadership is not a collectively rational and intelligent group of people. Every action they’ve taken going back to the end of the Bowden era has set them further and further back.

I am just curious, but how have they been when they haven't been good? They might be starting a run of being competitive, but this could also be a one-off. They are losing a ton of talent to the draft and in the portal.

FSU are a bunch of pussies who want to have their cake and eat it too. They want the prestige of an SEC team, but they don't want to play an SEC schedule.

Competitive relative to who?
Relative to Duke, Wake Forest and Miami they will always have a vastly superior roster.
No one in the ACC outside of Clemson has any real commitment to football which in their own words was the driving factor in staying in the conference rather than joining the SEC.
If your question is whether they can consistently field a nationally elite roster to compete with Bama, UGA and Texas in the NIL era I think it’s possible but will require outstanding coaching and booster involvement.

[Auerbach] Florida State Trustee Justin Roth called for FSU to make and execute an exit plan to get out of the ACC by August 2024.

Plan better include a huge checkbook or a magic wish.

Florida State will pick the easiest path to the playoffs that gives them the most amount of money.
They could have been in the SEC before but declined because the ACC was easier for them to get into 1 v. 2 bowl game scenarios. I have my doubts they will join the SEC this time either. The Big Ten will be easier and get them to the money situation necessary to compete with the SEC.

The only way I see FSU, UNC, Clemson, and NCST getting out of the ACC is by some sort of financing deal...perhaps done in concert with the conference they join.
Perhaps the reason Disney is doing the limited hang out on this is a sign they're working a deal to get all their valuable assets under the SEC contract and hang ACC out to dry?
I dunno, I just have my doubts about any of these ACC teams joining the SEC because they never saw the light before now...maybe Disney is trying to spoil Fox and CBS from getting in-roads into the Deep South cfb media market?

Hate to say it but as long as foley and the uAa keep meddling with Florida football fsu would honestly be a better contributor to the sec then Florida for the foreseeable future

I can't even watch FSU games on TV with sound on due to their stupid droning chant, why would I want my team to possibly play them every other year or so?

Yes do want FSU and another school

Because the smaller schools and bigger schools wanted guaranteed membership for football. They didn’t want the basketball schools that killed the big east to raid them nor the SEC/Big10/Big12 to raid their football schools. They wanted to stay a power conference that could sell enough football and basketball to garner a decent TV deal.
And realistically the ACC should have imploded already. They survived on basketball rivalries way too long.

The only two schools we should be going after to join the SEC are Notre Dame and North Carolina.
Speaking of bad cultural fits- one of those is a gotdayum yankee school, the other has a wine&cheese fricking commie fanbase and is a basketball school with zero history of football success, hell they haven’t even won an ACC fb championship since 1981, and have never even been in the ACC championship game.

If they are the first ACC team to challenge the Grant of Rights that holds the ACC together - do we want them?
In solidarity with our gator brethren, I say frick ‘em.
This is all just a performative art circle-jerk to attempt to pacify their idiotic fanbase

I say hell to the no. We gave them and Miami an opportunity to join several years ago and they gave us the finger. We remember!

Let's just add every FBS school.
