XFORD, Miss. — Hugh Freeze, who abruptly resigned as head football coach at Ole Miss last week, made his first public comments Wednesday.

“God is good, even in difficult times,’’ Freeze told USA TODAY Sports. “Wonderful wife and family, and that’s my priority.’’

Freeze said his family is supporting him after records showed that a one-minute call was made on Jan. 19, 2016, from Freeze's university-issued phone to a number associated with a female escort service. Ole Miss officials said last Thursday they found a "pattern of personal misconduct" by Freeze.

“Oh, gosh, yeah,’’ Freeze said when asked if his family is standing by him.

Although Freeze has not been seen publicly since he resigned Thursday, he indicated he is getting out. He wore a baseball cap, T-shirt and shorts while clearing brush at his home in an affluent subdivision near the lake where he is known to fish.

During a brief interview with USA TODAY Sports Wednesday, Freeze said he planned to take his daughters to volleyball and meet with his pastor.

“The girls have volleyball and then I’ll watch them,’’ he said. “I know I’m going to meet with my pastor tonight too.’’

Going to meet with his pastor, the same person who said "the closer you are to god, the worse the temptation." or something a long those lines when defending Freeze. What an absolute crock of dog $hit. He will deny everything until the day he dies.

I saw zero contrition in his quotes. Still spouting God stuff.

Dude is a sociopathic narcissist to the core.

Not true. There are fringe fundies who still buy in. But these are the same people that listen to Pat Robertson, Swaggart, etc. God's just testing him!

I love the little slime ball's choice of words. "Oh, gosh, yeah" when asked if his family was standing with him.

It's that folksy, hunky dory, speak that's meant to set people at ease

Guy is a manipulator to the extreme. I'm not surprised his family is sticking with him. a-hole probably has his wife brainwashed.

I think that is in chapter 5 of the book by Bill Clinton. I could be wrong.

Not going to happen - dude is a thumper and he can't just turn off the switch.

It will probably cost him job opportunities once his show causes lapses in 5 years

He really needs hide out at the lake house & clear brush for a few more weeks, stay OUT of the public eye, out of the headlines, and off social media. Sweat it out in the heat Hugh - do yard work till you drop - cleanse your mind through physical exhaustion.

The minister, preacher's, pastor's and reverend friends would serve him better if they kept their comments about the situation in private with Hugh.

It just serves no purpose to throw out these off the cuff comments & public displays of support while Hugh shows zero remorse or contrition for his own personal actions.

Serious question for the OM fans:

Are you even a little bit upset that he didn't/hasn't apologized to you yet?

Even scumbag Bobby Petrino released this statement the day he was let go:

"The simplest response I have is: I'm sorry. These two words seem very inadequate. But that is my heart," Petrino said in a statement. "All I have been able to think about is the number of people I've let down by making selfish decisions. I've taken a lot of criticism in the past. Some deserved, some not deserved. This time, I have no one to blame but myself.
