South Carolina just isn't as good without Silva mugging players and not fouling out. Martin put fear in the refs to not call fouls on Silva.

Now that he's gone -- zero inside presence and it shows.

[quote]Does South carolina have any program where their fans expectations are actually realistic and in line with their historic success in that given sport. Never seen a fanbase with such an overinflated sense of expectations in everything. Its reality Carolina. Frank Martin is doing fine for yall. Same for Muschamp.[/quote

Such a stupid mentality. It’s 2020. Anyone can win anywhere if they can coach and recruit. You’re seeing it with Kentucky football right now.

It's absolutely fair to be concerned about making 1 NCAAT in 8 years, even if that 1 led to a magical run to the FF.

And still didn't get him. Not saying that in a bad way towards Scar, his history shows he enjoys the attention, but never commits to moving on from where he is.

Except he did commit to moving on from Winthrop to WSU at nearly the same time we were moving on from Dave Odom.

The rumors - for whatever that’s worth - say that Marshall is a dick and the old AD didn’t like him so we never pursued him fully.

He’s from SC and was coaching at a small SC school before he left to WSU. To imply that we never had a shot when a school like WSU got him is erroneous.

Even before hindsight and his success at WSU, I was pissed that we didn’t pursue him after his success at Winthrop. Who care if he’s a dick?

I believe this is absolutely true.

He tries to tell folks that he isn't interested in coaching anywhere else, but he does throw his name into the coaching search mixes. The truth is, people don't like him. Heard the same shite when we were looking to make our last hire.

You’re still so salty about that Elite 8 game.

Good season, bad season doesn't matter much to me. His style of basketball is pretty hard to watch with a whistle about every 20 seconds. There were 73 FT in the game last night. There were 21 in the LSU vs TAMU game, 27 in the Ole Miss vs Vandy game, 35 in MSU vs Mizzou.

What? We’re not acting like Martin should have 5 conference titles and 3 Elite 8s by now. But we do expect to be a team than can get into a freakin 68-team tournament more than once a decade. That is not unreasonable.

I'm referring to his time at WSU, he is the man there, and they will pay him almost anything to stay. We were in negotiations with him too, so this isn't unfamiliar grounds with Mizzou.

Okay, but I’m saying we had a chance to nab him before he went to WSU when he was looking to finally leave Winthrop.

There's something to be said for having a good working relationship with your boss.

Sure, hindsight is 20/20 and it would have been a great hire for y'all to make, but it's also kinda hard to fault your AD for not hiring a guy who acts like a flaming hemmorhoid. Especially before he went on to kick arse at WSU. Before WSU nobody really knew he was some sort of basketball prodigy. People may have been able to guess at how good he would end up being, but he hadn't proven it on the big stage yet.

And apparently, even now that he has proven it, bigger schools have made overtures and still turned him down over character issues.

He's a hot name for sure, but there's other good coaches out there.

And my god Frank Martin teams are painful to watch. College basketball is already a foul fest that’s frustrating to watch, we take that shite and run with it.

I don’t know If it was Frank’s fault or our fault or the refs fault but I’ll agree our game against SC this season was the most excruciating I’ve watched. I was honestly just ready for it to end, not quite but almost didn’t even care the outcome- just be over.

It was an ugly game for sure, but it ended up being a great one. Even though we lost. Right down to the wire.

And hey, Martin got a road win in that one. Dude can coach, even if people think his teams are ugly.

He proved he can coach by getting Carolina to the Final Four. That was a damn good team he had.

You got that right.

How many do y’all have again?

That was no fluke. That team was hot and talented. Didn’t beat one single cupcake in that tourney.

Seems to me is what has happened is he has raised y'all's expectations
that happened under another Frank. Big Frank, as he's still known here - circa 1964-1980.

12401 seat Carolina Coliseum opened in 1969 and was far & away the best basketball arena in the entire South until Rupp opened in 1976.

USC used to play in the Dixie Classic in Raleigh with our old hated ACC cousins UNC,Duke,NCSU and those were some of the nastiest basketbrawl games ever played. Frank McGuire elevated our expectations way back then and we've just slumbered as fans since.

Frank Martin's Final Four run was a tease, but he's not been able to sustain as Big Frank did in the 1960s-70s.

The one thing usc has going for it with Marshall is he is a gamecock fan, the guy has season football tickets.

Expecting to make the tournament more than once a decade is delusional?

Youve made the tournament 9 times ever in 110 yrs of playing the sport.

Yeah....yall are absolutely delusional. Remove McGuire and your history is even more laughable. Its not unreasonable to WANT more. It is however delusional to expect it based on your incredibly mediocre history.

If the field was 68 teams for that entire time period, what would the number be?
