Aaaand... the SEC Office replies with classic non-substantive gibberish:

"erroneous and without merit... unfounded and irresponsible"

Thanks for the confirmation, Mr. Slive, but we're looking at the same tape as Mr. Pereira and can judge for ourselves.

Sure wish Mike Pereira was on the TV back in 2006, and Fox had televised Refgate on the Plains..LSU-Aub

Jeff Roberson and Crew's ears would've been burning...all damn day on a litany of plays!

Maybe it had something to do with his position demotion? Subsequent move to the GSC?

tl;dr I think the SEC is doing X. I talked to my buddy who said they are not doing X. Therefore, they are definitely doing X.

He gives no proof whatsoever on any of his claims and expects us to believe him because he is Mike Pereira. It hasn't exactly been lost on me that he as an employee by Fox, who largely covers the Big Ten and Pac-12, is criticizing a conference that is covered largely by a direct competitor.

How can they lose what they never had?

I don't know how much football you watch from other conferences, but know that SEC officials are miles better than Big Ten or PAC-12 officials. ACC and Big XII officials suck balls as well.

Nonetheless, there is a LOT of room for improvement.

I am wearing my tin foil hat on this one; I beleive Pereira instinctively knows something is off about SEC officiating and it's deeper than just incompetence.

Why should we believe him? The burden of proof is on him when making an accusation like that, and he has not provided any.

And seriously, he is bitching that refs took a minute to get the call correct. Meanwhile, the conferences his employers cover trot out some of the most obviously incompetent refs to ever step foot on a college football field. Those guys can't get a call right even with replay and he is bitching about SEC officials taking time to get a call right. What an asshat.

I would take the observations of a guy like Pereira before I would believe anything that comes out of the mouth from any SEC official in Birmingham. Unlike SEC referees, Pereira KNOWS how to officiate( unlike the glorified Alabama high school referees who do it for the SEC). He probably nailed it.

So then why doesn't he give any proof whatsoever to back up his claims? If he can't provide proof, then everything he is saying is nothing more than baseless accusation.

Read this article last night and an FSU fan and myself discussed it. We aren't sure exactly what the point of the article is, since he never says anything like "they picked up a flag when it was illegal to do so."

If he is just pointing out that the SEC does their officiating differently, and it is illegal because of that, then I understand. But, if it isn't done to favor one team over another, does it change the result of a game? Like is the SEC 'Cheating' (use that word extremely loosely here of course) when non-conference teams are in, so those OOC teams are playing by different rules when SEC officials are calling the game?

It's not like he is some two-bit hack job posting youtube videos from his trailer park.

Sure he isn't providing proof, but he does have an extensive reputation and highly relevant subject matter expertise. So yea it's a little more than a "baseless accusation" and it should make you at least a little curious.
