I am a little confused by some of these news articles. Some say he had been charged and had posted bail and yet a grand jury was to start convening Monday. I am guessing he was only arrested following the incident and that the grand jury was being convened to determine what formal charges, if any, were to be levied against him; otherwise, it would not make sense to convene a grand jury.
If you’re arrested for anything, you’ve been charged. You still get to have a preliminary hearing and, if the judge finds probable cause or you waive the prelim, your case gets bound over to the grand jury. This is where they either find a true bill or no bill for the indictment (the charges). If they find a true bill, it moves forward to the trial phase. Sometimes there are direct presentments to the grand jury but not always.

He killed someone then was afraid to face the charges.
This of course likely played a role but I’d also expect he was carrying a lot of guilt.

Lacy should be living out his NFL dream instead of dying young and being remembered for a trainwreck, just a sad situation

A tragedy.
Honestly hoping against hope this isn’t a tragedy topped on another tragedy.

I don’t know what everyone else has read but what I read said the cops say his passing others caused an accident he wasn’t involved in. That’s a far cry from a hit and run.
No that’s what he and his attorneys were claiming. That he was peacefully cruising down the road, legally passed someone, and had no idea anything happened until he got arrested. Prosecutors and witnesses say he was driving like a maniac swerving around cars at high speeds in a beyond reckless manner, caused a head on collision when another car had to swerve to avoid hitting him, and he sped away from the scene with zero care.

I hate seeing young men do this. It's an epidemic right now.
Check in with your sons, gentlemen.

guilt of killing someone in an ACCIDENT?
It wasn't an accident. He consciously chose to pass in a no passing zone and caused a head on collision. That's a wreck, but it ain't no accident.

Hmm. Someone needs a dictionary.

I don’t think you understand the definition of accident. You just described one, though.
No one is saying he wasn’t guilty of a crime. Or that he didn’t deserve what was likely coming for him. But unintentionally killing another human being is an accident. It’s unintentional.

You can be arrested and post bail without being charged. Depending on statute of limitations a prosecutor can file charges at a later date or decide to drop the case entirely.

There’s plenty of people who have no NFL future who drive around like idiots or maniacs every day. Young people feel invincible. It’s terrible that a split second can entirely change a life

I remember Ruggs catching hell on here, but he is doing his time.

Lacy was arrested a month after it happened after an arrest warrant was issued

So a kid takes his life and this is what you come here to post? What a POS.
I’d say the world is a little bit of a better place today.
Good riddance.

No he shouldn’t.
Where he should be is facing a grand jury tomorrow morning for committing reckless homicide. If indicted by the grand jury, he should be tried. If found guilty, he should be in prison alongside other criminals. He has no business being in the NFL.
Lacy made 3 really bad choices:
He chose to drive like a fool and extremely wreckless that put others at great risk.
After causing a wreck that killed a man, he chose to flee the accident instead of calling 911 for help and do whatever necessary to help.
He chose to kill himself instead of standing in front of a grand jury tomorrow.

highly doubt he woke up that day and said “I’m going to use my car today to kill somebody random.”
That's EXACTLY the problem. I bet that thought NEVER entered his mind. Not even for a second.
And everyone else traveling the roads in Louisiana were potentially paying his tab.

There are some legitimately terrible people on this forum

It would be a lot on someone's mind if they knew the state was not going to back off him doing some years in prison which would cost you an NFL contract. More stressful than if the NFL stuff wasn't involved. You have to live with your actions in life and the consequences though.

The definition of pass away is... die. So, yeah, he passed away.

afraid to face the charges.
I'm sure the charges and life altering events that happened were contributing factors, but it is just as likely if not more so that the weight of his actions that led to the death of another was too much to bear.
Suicide is always sad. Prayers for his family and continued prayers for the family of the man he killed.
Life is precious. Nothing should weigh so heavy on your soul as to take one's own life. God is forgiving.
