It was a good read. I am personally all for the aggies joining the conference.

With the mentality of every man for himself in that conference, I'm not sure how it will stay together. The rich will just keep getting richer...

More proof that ESPN is ruining college football. I dont know what can be done about it because of the money involved. But their selective publicity and big money contracts to a select few will irreparably damage my favorit sport.

Kick out Auburn or Alabama and bring in Texas A&M or TCU... or both!

I can tell you how this ends. A&M threatens to leave causing Texas to threaten to go indy... the legislature says fine, but if A&M leaves they have to take Tech. (since they cant go indy and Texas is just reacting to A&M leaving).

SEC refuses Tech and everything stays the same...

idk why you guys want TCU. they were good for 2 years in football. they lose a lot of talent this year and its a christian school which makes it harder for them to recruit. are there any other sports that they are good at? aTm imo would be the best choice out of texas.

If A&M said yes and OK said no, would the SEC have then needed to find a balancing team? Would VaTech or Clemson have come into play then?

I firmly believe it is only a matter of time before Texas has another greed eruption and sends whats left of the big 12 up in flames and A&M will bolt to the SEC. I had a long talk with a big Texas booster on a flight the other day and he as much as admitted it at the end. I for one think its the smartest move A&M could make and will ultimately benefit the SEC the most.

without question. from a cultural and geographic standpoint, they are a great match for the SEC.

Texas to threaten to go indy

What a colossal mistake that would be. Texas, while a rich and successful program isn't ND when it comes to national audiences or clout with TV. Yes, I know they have their own network, but its success is as much tied to being part of a major conference as it is to it being Texas. Without a major conference, the TV deal isn't all that attractive. Is Texas willing to go indy at the risk of being frozen out of the BCS system (i.e., not guaranteed a BCS bowl, ala ND)? I don't see Texas getting the ND treatment as there isn't much incentive to do such a deal (that many regard as a mistake in the first place with ND). Texas' as relevance as a football power would quickly wane as an independent, in spite of what some Texas fans/alums think.

It is a shame that Texas politics may make it unlikely that the legislature will let A&M work its own deal with another conference without interference.

I think things will stay the same for awhile, but I have serious doubts about the viability of the former Big 12 over the long haul.

VT has DC market and would be the likely choice.

I don't agree. I think aTm will eventually join the SEC. They have natural rivalries with LSU and Arkansas, so they fit in well in the Western Division and probably FSU would be added in the Eastern Division because of their natural rivalry with UF. I see the SEC as a 16 member league in the next 10 to 15 years.

FSU does absolutely nothing in terms of expanding the TV market, and in the end that's what all this is about.

UT $$$$ > ND $

They have the richest athletic program in the country and ND does not even come close.

The best way to improve is to jump right in and get used to the style of play.

Richer than ND, no doubt, but not with the same national clout. If Texas were to go independent, they largely cease to be relevant and the money won't help them very much. There is no particular reason to schedule them. ND has long standing relationships with teams like Michigan and USC. Texas has relationships based on conference affiliation. Without that affiliation, maybe only a couple of traditional rivals, like OU and A&M have much reason to continue to play them or some of the other Texas schools who need to play them to get some attendance, but the national interest will wane quickly. Outside of Texas, who will really care about Texas apart from a major conference? ND has a national following. I don't see the same kind of national following for Texas.

It has been tough for ND as an independent in the BCS world, even with its deal with the BCS. Texas will not get a deal with the BCS, and without a deal with the BCS will matter only if it is in the NC game frequently, which isn't going to happen.

I would love for A&M to come over to the SEC, their tradition and love for football will fit very nicely in the SEC and be a better fit here than in the Big12-2 anyway. Plus they would bust our conferences fragile basketball reputation and further strengthen our conferences overall baseball power. Plus adding the Houston market would be HUGE! I also have a lot of great aggie friends so renewing our rivarly with them would be really cool!
