TM7 plays a lot on special teams. And I'm against anything that may hinder his incredible value to the defense.
I dont think he is that much more electrifying than OBJ with the ball that we need to take him away from defensive preparation in order to practice with the O. And I'm certainly not for doing it to increase his chances at the Heisman.
I will say that I'm glad Miles let him return punts this year. I always wondered why PP7 didnt return punts until his last year.

I like Lee, and I really respect him for being loyal to the program. And he deserves all the credit given to any other starter for the amazing year we've had. If he had transferred, we likely arent undefeated thru 8 games.
But if you watch him play, he picks his primary receiver at the line and is throwing to him no matter what. He is better than JJ at reading the coverage and identifying the receiver most likely to get open before the snap. He was also helped by the enormous respect paid to our running game, and by some pretty talented WRs.
But Bama was able to fool him with pre-snap coverage looks, and the rush definitely messed with his head.
JJ gives us another method to move the ball with his legs, and is just capable enough of a passer that defenses must respect it. Therefore, JJ gives us the best chance to succeed this year, which is why he was chosen the starter before the Shady's incident.
It would be great if the coaches could come up with some packages for Lee with all the prep time before the game, and I think there is a chance they will. Lee looks extremely unhappy on the sidelines, and I think the only way he understands the contribution he made to the greatest season in school history is to get some meaningful PT in the BCS. But we were fortunate to overcome those picks on Nov 5, and I'm not sure Miles wants to risk that again.

Doesnt matter how many are watching. That may stop the blatant calls like PP7's, but still wont prevent the timely holding calls, etc. Rest of the nation would chalk it up to bad timing, or ref seeing something the cameras didnt. But those of us who have lived with this for years will know the actual story.
I agree we can overcome it with domination, but with both defenses so good, this game will come down to which O makes more big plays. See how many of our big plays are called back.

Can Anything Be Done About the Refs

to head off whats sure to be a biased crew in Tuscaloosa?
I know we've got 2 games to win before, but we need to start putting the word out now if we want the issue to gain enough momentum by Nov 5th that the refs will realize they are under a microscope.
No secret that Bama and Auburn benefit from hometown refs in the SEC's home state. Doesnt need to be out and out robbery of a TO (see Petersen 2 yrs ago). Just enough holding calls to bring back decent pass plays, blocks in back on good returns, and a blind eye to such calls when Bama has the ball.
Would it be possible for the tv media to mention it- ideally something on Gameday? Only way I see to make sure we get a fair shake.

I wasn't expecting to see that penalty called on us until the Bama game
They called it this week to set a precedent for LSU so it wont look as biased when they do call it in the BAMA game.
Announcers can now say LSU has a history of taunting when BAMA refs use the penalty to take away a vital touchdown.

I frankly cant get enough of her.
She's a great ambassador for LSU soccer, not to mention the university as a whole. Dont think personal attention is her goal in the slightest.
I can definitely see a career in broadcast journalism waiting for her when she's done at LSU. In the meantime, please give us more "Meaux vs."
He can do nothing but hurt his draft position and cost himself money by coming back.
He'll talk up LSU to try and get the Rays to give up the coins, but in the end he signs.
And I have no problem with that. He's definitely one of the all-time tiger greats.

Yes, you are right. To us this is BCS title mishap redemption in a way. And lets face it, its not like most SEC teams like to schedule PAC-10 teams, so we have to make every opportunity to smash a SEC team when we get one. This game, even more.
See- this worries me. Not that this game doesnt have LSU's full attention in the offseason, but coming off the MNC loss- I can see Oregon really getting cranked up and aiming at this first game.
I know yall have lost more starters than we have from last year, but we've lost some seniors who were real leaders (Sheppard, Nevis, Petersen, Tolliver).
Plus, LSU has a history of falling on our face in big-time season openers (Va Tech 2002, nearly losing to a depleted NC last year).
We will need every bit of crowd advantage in this one. It should be an amazing ballgame.

Ducks-
I know its early, but is there any "revenge" type motivation being talked about within the Oregon program?
And I by revenge, I mean the Ducks getting another shot at an SEC team right on the heels of a loss in the MNC?

I have no doubt Tyrann could be an all-SEC CB. But I'd rather have him continue in the role he played last year: nickel back / hybrid.
It will be interesting to see if has similar stats this year after SEC coaches have had an offseason to game plan for him. Chavis will have to get creative with how he's used.
He's definitely on his way to being one of my all-time favorite tigers.

I agree every year the lines are critical. But I think this o-line will continue the improvement they started last year.
And the DL could be outstanding if Montgomery comes back strong and we stay healthy.

Yeah- LB would be 1b on my list. Baker is due for a big year, but the other 2 spots will have to step up to allow Chavis to do all he'd like to do with the talent on the line and in the backfield.

what one position concerns you the most for next year?
Mine would be WR. RR is as fluid an athlete as Ive seen but needs to show he can consistently separate from coverage.
RS needs to prove the same thing: that he can run a precise route and get distance from the defender.
The rest of the guys are largely unproven.
The blocking of our WR's has dropped off as well. I think thats one of the reasons we've had trouble running outside the tackles and throwing screen passes.
FWIW- this is not a rant. Just itching for some football discussion.

The tempo is what concerns me. Texas A&M ran an up-tempo offense and it had us on our heels most of the game. What saved us was our offense moving the chains and some turnovers.
And Chavis had a long time to prepare for A&M, like he will for Oregon. Hope he learned some lessons.

anyone would have been better....there were only 4 others in the country that were worse then JJ...
But they werent on our team.
Miles is going to give JJ every opportunity to take control of the position, possibly even at the expense of Mett's development. But if Mett is head and shoulders above JJ in the fall, I'm confident Miles will play him.
If he's not head and shoulders better, than perhaps 2 years of SEC starting experience should be the deciding factor.
Also the first time Miles imposed his will on the Off scheme, and we ran the ball more out of traditional sets.
Simplify the offense and focus on technique- I think Stud will show his ability this year.

Oregon game is a must-win, despite what people are saying. We will not get thru the SEC undefeated (when was the last time we did that- '58?).
Lose to Oregon and thats at least 2 losses- only one other team played in the BCS with 2 losses.
And yes, that was LSU. But the odds of it happening again are astronomical.
Beat Oregon and beat WVU, and I like our chances. A lot.

I think the lack of identity on offense hurt the O-line more than lack of talent, tho we did have attrition.
Blocking for Crowton's spread is a totally different philosophy than blocking for an I-based attack.
I've criticized Stud in the past, but if we have a true, consistent offensive philosophy this year, I think Stud shows himself to be a good O-line coach.
Especially if Will Blackwell can stay healthy.

On the surface it seems legitimate. A school that recruits nationally would need some help locating talent in areas that arent near campus.
Its when these services become friendly with the recruits and their families that the potential for shady activity starts.
My gut feeling is that the NCAA is trying to understand the whole situation regarding these recruiting services in order to enact some future regulations to better govern their involvement with student athletes. I dont see the intent as penalizing LSU or Oregon, unless something new comes to light.

Sort of strange to see this game so popular for LSU fans? I understand that USC was a premier team back then, but a loss is a loss so I don't understand the luv for this lost
I was at the game- back when UHigh kids used to get in with a student ID.
To me the game sums up the history of LSU football: playing with heart and passion against superior talent in our stadium. And that was back when Tiger Stadium was the real deal- smell of bourbon everywhere, and the roar was so loud you couldnt even hear yourself speak during timeouts.
I remember LSU players diving to the sidelines during late substitutions to avoid too many men on the field penalties. Just an incredibly passionate game. And the only loss where I wasnt griping about playcalling or some other coaching issue afterwards.
Plus- you cant beat the tear-away jerseys.
