Administrators from LSU and Florida are monitoring Hurricane Matthew as it barrels through the Caribbean and toward Florida, but the status of the game between the Tigers and Gators has not changed, UF released in a statement. Officials from each school held a conference call this afternoon to discuss the threat from Matthew.

Georgia and South Carolina officials are monitoring Matthew as well. The Bulldogs and Gamecocks are scheduled to play Saturday in Columbia, South Carolina.

The Southeastern Conference regularly communicates with schools on weather issues and will remain in contact with those programs involved in both games that have potential to be impacted by Matthew, said Herb Vincent, SEC associate commissioner for communications.

WAFB meteorologist Steve Caparotta said Gainesville should feel the most effects late Thursday and Friday morning. The city has a 49 percent chance of receiving tropical storm force winds, according to the National Hurricane Center. LSU is scheduled to fly into Ocala, Florida, on Friday afternoon, and the team is staying in Ocala, about 40 minutes south of Gainesville. It is scheduled to fly out of Gainesville after the game.

"Do they get enough wind Thursday night where they are dealing with power outages?" Caparotta said. "One wiggle east or west will make a big impact. They’re on the west side of the storm, which his traditionally a weaker side. ... Weather wise at noon Saturday is not terrible."

In October 2015, a game between LSU and South Carolina scheduled to be played in Columbia, S.C., was moved to Tiger Stadium because of widespread flooding in that state. A big reason for moving that game was the lack of personnel to work the game. Authorities were needed to battle the flood conditions.

Wherever they end up moving the game, and even if they end up playing in Gainesville, this storm is going to be a major disaster if it ends up staying on its current path. A category 3 storm is no joke and it's moving all the way up the coast.

Absolutely. Florida is going to be a mess from this storm. It is going to effect the entire eastern side of the state.

Gainesville probably will be okay, unless it turns west. The rest of the State is going to take every available resource. Keep in mind that the populations on the East are much higher than the West.

It could also be 200 miles off shore and have little effect. It's too early to tell. I don't believe these "cones" 4 days out.

Issue is as we have said you can't wait till projected time it hits to make a decision. If the game is being moved to lsu then they will have to reach out to employees law enforcment vendors sell tickets etc. This isn't a high school game that we can wait till last minute to make. I would think tmrw at noon will be the latest they can make a decision on this.

Yeah agreed. I'd imagine at some point tomorrow a decision will be made one way or another.

Most recent models show it going further west. I doubt Florida admins are talking about it yet

Who is Matthew? We aint moving shite...Gainesville is a ways from east coast and we love playing in the rain anyway. Im second generation native and weather stations scare little old ladies who pizz their pants....they want viewers and they want to sell fishwraps.

This is October and water is cooler...wind speeds will slow down as it heads north.

So you don't think the storm will have any effect on LSU trying to fly into Ocala on Friday around noon? And you don't think there will be any issues with hotels filling up with east coast evacuee's? What about highway patrol's, and emergency personnel units? This is all just a weather station scare tactic nothing more.

Seriously?
Either you are trolling, or that is a current picture of you in your avi.
Look, no one really wants y'all to loose a home game, but this isn't as simple as "the wind won't be strong during the game"

I'll be at the game so it better not move. Games are fun to watch when it's raining as long as it's not cold.

The issue is not what the weather is during the game as it should be OK weather by noon Saturday unless the storm slows down.

The issues are:

1. Will their be power in that stadium on Sat at noon?

2. Will there be enough staffing (law enforcement and otherwise) for an SEC game to be played at noon Saturday?

3. Will LSU be able to safely fly into the area 24 hours before kickoff?

I think UF should consider moving the game to Sunday evening in Gville. That would solve my #1 and #3.

Not exactly. Depends on the aftermath and damage left.

If it is major damage to the state then those law enforcement resources won't free up by the next day, as we seen and experienced in Baton Rouge with the flooding. Law enforcement and first responders worked around the clock for weeks.

Same with power. No telling what kind of damage may occur to the power grid and infastructure

Saturday will be bright and sunny...dont fret. Folks should have reservations for hotels because there will never be vacancies on gamedays...the rival teams stay at Holiday Inn just a short walk to stadium and an even shorter bus ride.

And we have a system that will start pushing the storm eastward once it reaches Fla on Thursday. The game shouldnt be harmed...forecast for Tampa Bay area on Saturday is 0% percent chance of rain and its only 120-125 miles from Gainesville.
