Perkins: 8-4
Curry: 7-5
Stallings: 7-5
Dubose: 4-7
Fran: 7-5
Shula: 4-9
Saban: 7-6

The bar is pretty low for DeBoer. On the other hand, Bama fans should prepare themselves for a tough first season.

Would you be happy with an 8-4 record next season?

Good idea getting a head start on moving the goal posts

I never have expectations for a first season with a new coach.

And one of those losses being to LSU?

Depends. Do we look good and come up barely short in a few tough games, ending the season on a high note with good recruits on the way? Or do we get blown out several times and end the season in disarray? To borrow from Saban, the process is what matters. If the coach looks like he knows what he is doing and he is laying a solid foundation, then you give him some leeway.

LSU is just another game. We're not rivals.

I mean, facts are facts. If he goes 9-3 he will have the best first season at Alabama in living memory.

That's easy to say when it hasn't been your team with a new HC for the last 17 years.

Saban's 7-6 record was after a revolving door of coaches post-Stallings and the program was still under probation, IIRC.

I mean I am not going to lie and say I wasn't making fun of Alabama after Saban's loss to ULM that year, but in retrospect, the 7-6 record wasn't bad.

That 7-6 record is also much more palatable when you look at the hardware won shortly after it.

I'm old enough to remember Saban losing to ULM in his first season and fans of other teams pretending that meant something.

Fair enough. Tennessee? Auburn? Both?

I'd prefer Tennessee lose every game regardless of opponent. I don't care about Auburn.

Eh Saban’s first year he had to deal with sanctions from previous admin, having to sit multiple starters due to said sanctions, and he still was within 1 score of winning in all 5 games we lost

Think DeBoer can manage 9-3 or 10-2 just fine

I would say Saban raised the bar on the expectations of an Alabama HC.

Saban's loss to ULM might buy DeBoer some latitude in Year 1. DeBoer's record after Year 1 and Saban's success after Year 1 means Year 2 is going to a make or break season for DeBoer.

Saban lost to Auburn and LSU his first season. He lost to Tennessee and LSU the season before last. You can’t win them all. No fan is happy losing any game, but no one expects us to go undefeated, either.

Heck, Saban had a losing record to LSU after the game of the century. He started 2-2 against Auburn.

Well sure. The expectation is to win the SEC regularly and play for and win national championships. If he can't do that he'll be looking for a new job.

There are freshman students at Alabama that have no memory of the team losing 4 games.

BK did this last year coming off a sub .500 season and Alabama fans trashed him.

That's probably the realistic expectation without knowing how roster retention and recruiting goes.
