Basically 12.2x as many people watched the first round NCAA tournament game between Cincinnati and Purdue than the Virginia-Arkansas College World Series game last Saturday

2.74x as many people watched the Women's Final Four Game between UConn and Maryland than Virginia-Arkansas

5.46x as many people watched a first round NCAA tourney game between UC Irvine and Louisville that tipped off on TNT around 4:30pm on a Friday Afternoon than the Virginia-Arkansas game

Looks like college baseball has a long way to go. But it disproves the South Carolina fan theory that "baseball is second only to football season" when first round NCAA games in the middle of a weekday afternoon and Women's Final Four games are spanking the college baseball premiere event in television viewership.

I don't know how anyone could watch and enjoy a Women's college basketball game... That's just tough to wrap my mind around.

If SC wasn't good in it, I wouldn't watch it.

So what did that Cincinnati Purdue game translate into actual viewers for the game? Was it on the BTN or on a channel the rest of the country actually watches?

Tipped off on CBS at 7:10pm EST

I know more people watch CBS than ESPN but I also included a game on TruTV that tipped off at 1:40pm EST on a Thusday Afternoon, UAB and Iowa State.

so what you're saying is that college baseball isn't as popular as basketball in other parts of the country.

Care to post a link?

What numbers did the series last year between VU and UVA generate?

Yes, the average person doesn't watch college baseball. Why would they? There are MLB games on if you want to watch some baseball.

College football even gets lower ratings than NFL games when they are both played at the same time.

March Madness beats the NBA so this comparison doesn't work

So you are saying 2 non football schools with limited CWS history drew a 1 - 2 rating?

Seems pretty good, especially if you have a LSU vs Texas type game in a future CWS finals.

1.07, 1.0, 1.17

That can be good or bad depending on your standards

By comparison the Women's World Cup game the other night did a 3

Team USA was involved in that, but even the non-team USA matches are hovering around a 0.8

This is exactly why the sport needs the Big 10 resurgence to continue (major media markets) and the Pac 12 to get its act together. This year, the CWS is simply a Southeast regional -- with the exception of Fullerton -- that happens to be contested in Omaha.

NCAA Tournament is most heavily bet on (legally) sporting event on the Earth. Literally. They use the terms BILLIONS. As far as unofficial office pools, estimates are that it's far, far greater than we can peg an official dollar amount on.

To compare that to the NCAA Baseball Tournament, which has only recently gotten the type of exposure and coverage from ESPN that other sports have, is really kinda silly.

The guys in Vegas talk about betting odds as they relate to public interest and mention that the first really big NCAA Hoops action they took was in 1979 for Michigan State/Indiana State with Magic/Bird.

That was 36 years ago. So with that much time and focus dedicated to the sport versus what's been given to collegiate baseball...are you really expecting something different?

This is nothing more than statistics which present an opportunity for your confirmation bias. But I can assure you where this sport has been given a priority-LSU, MSU, South Carolina and the SEC as a whole-its been proven that interest-and profit-will flow into and out of it, respectively.
