LSU was not giving up on him. He seemed to think he was not given an opportunity to be a starter which is not true. Too many kids these days leave bc they feel like they should start but truly are not good enough. If he went to a non SEC school and had success, then he would be ready for the bigger programs. No one should be judged on last year and I’m not. He was a freshman but he looked lost when playing against better teams. Max Johnson looked better than he did in a smaller sample size too. Had Johnson started the game against ATM the game might have been closer/different. Not saying they win but would have been more of a game.

Some LSU fans acting like he can't be any good because he didn't tear it up as a true freshman.

He has a lot to work on. He was a freshman last year. I don't understand giving up on a kid, a QB especially, after being in college for less than a year.

No one gave up on him. He gave up on LSU coaches placed him 4th string after the spring game.

I take as Finley must've seen the writing on the wall and LSU must have a strong QB room for a QB to leave after only playing a partial 1st year.

We have Brennan and Johnson who were pretty much ahead of him already. Then, we have Garrett Nussmeier that just signed early in this last class. He's another 4 star and seems to have passed up Finley already. Then next year we have 5 star Walker Howard committed. He's the son of former LSU QB Jamie Howard so I guess TJ feels like he's a lock to sign. He must feel like there isn't really a path to much playing time.

Then, Arch Manning is a wild card. Who knows what he does. I happen to think that he will never sign with LSU.

Finley was always kind of a depth kind of guy who you hope can become starter material by his junior or senior season.

The quarterback picture at LSU looked much different when he committed and it now appears as though he wouldn't have much of a shot to ever earn a starting job at LSU without something crazy happening.

Not every LSU fan is shitting on him. I understand kids these days don’t like competition. Finley is acting like LSU never gave him the chance. He wanted to go somewhere so he could play against LSU. Not to a place that he could develop or grow into a player.
I think he should have stayed one more year. Last year was a cluster all the way around with Covid, opt outs, no spring or summer camps. Abbreviated fall camp. Schedule changes. Coaching changes. No real development occurred
If he came back, he could learn under a better offense and have a real spring, summer, and fall training and then next year battle for starter. Realistically is he going to be the starter for Auburn? More than likely no. So why go to a school that you won’t start? Better off going to a smaller school and start, then transfer to a bigger program.

Some LSU fans fear what TJ can become due to his potential. With that said, I think he should've committed to Bama, Penn State or Houston because he would've gotten the development he desperately needs. If Harsin's first two seasons are bad he could very well be fired along with the AD who hired him after his second season. TJ had more stable programs to go to than Auburn.

Oh, so Bobo is a shitty QB coach now? I learn something new every day here.

And Harsin isn’t getting fired after 2 years. You dumb fricks wouldn’t believe we’d fire Gus after 8 years, but Harsin is only getting two?

I get dumber every day reading the posts here.

That might be true that he could become really great and grow into his potential and some LSU fans fear that. I don’t. I think LSU is finally capable of recruiting good QBs from high school and develop them. I think Max Johnson and Nussmeier will be better than Finley overall. No knock on Finley just I think those 2 will develop better. If he does well, it will be a hell of a game if he starts. Just don’t see it happening soon.

Finley has all the physical attributes and will still be a freshman, 2020 didnt cost him any eligibility. Nobody gave up on him, i think he still was in contention to win the job. If he had to go, he picked an ideal situation to transfer to. New staff, new system, new depth chart. Auburn at the very least aquired quality depth, with some good qb coaching maybe a starter in a year. I wish him well, just not against LSU!

Wtf are u talking about? Finley definitely was out of the running for the starting qb job at lsu. He was 3rd string lol. The only way he would ever play is if max and Myles were to both get hurt. Hell, I'm not so sure that nuss wouldn't be a better option instead of finley had it come down to that. He transfered for a reason, and it wasn't bc he just wanted to go elsewhere. He just wasn't good enough to be lsus qb bc we have other QBs with more talent than him.

no, he wasn’t.

The kid has potential but he was very clearly 3rd string going into the spring game and then performed poorly. Hell, Nussmeier may even have pushed him for that third spot.

Only way to do that it take a program QB who isn’t really good enough to play in the SEC but isn’t terrible and grew up rooting for your school and is just holy to be there.

Personally I think that’s a waste of a scholly but I get the argument for it. If Max beats out Myles we’ll have gone from 4 QBs to 2 real fast.

Mac Jones had an offer from Kentucky so he wasn’t quite “not SEC worthy” but you could argue for Alabama that taking Mac Jones along with Tua the year after Jalen Hurts won Freshman of the Year was exactly that kind of strategy.

Sign someone who will long haul to get their chance to start just in case Tua transfers if Jalen Hurts doesn’t have a sophomore slump.
