Alabama is about tradition. Denny does have Denny Chimes named after him, but we don't like to change things at Bama, and for good reason. Without Denny we would never have landed Bear, and would not have become the football powerhouse we are today.
Our field needed to be named anyway.
However, if they ever do posthumously name it with Saban's name, it should be Bryant-Saban, not Saban-Bryant. Just do it and claim it was about chronology and not superior acumen.

Who actually cares about this, though? Is it more of an insult than not naming it after him?

The culture of an organization is cumulative. Would Saban have accomplished what he did at Alabama were it not for Bryant? I would suggest probably not. Bryant set the expectations....that is a real thing...culturally Alabama expects to win at a high level. Bear Bryant is a HUGE part of that...it should be Bryant Saban if its changed....of course I ain't nearly and Alabama fan so my opinion counts for bupkus but CFB is a lot about tradition and they are being lost left right and center....

the fact that Finebaum has his platform is an insult to the fans

It's a shame because every BAMA fan seems to get this no-brainer but ALABAMA hierarchy. They had a chance to name this stadium after the absolute 2 best college coaches of all time. A child could have figured this out. What a missed opportunity.

I agree with this completely. Dude was the GOAT. Put his name on the damn stadium. Denny was a cool president back before anyone here was alive. He has the most iconic structure on campus named after him already.

Doesn't matter. No one will ever have more buildings named after them then Richard Shelby.
Is there a public university in Alabama without a building named after him?

I mean he has a statue. He has the field. He will have a street named after him (almost assuredly it will be 10th Avenue so Bryant Denny meets at Bryant St and Saban St)

Denny is a former president and has his name on Denny Chimes. Not sure why he needs his name on the football stadium as well.
Bryant - Saban stadium makes a lot of sense.

I doubt that many people on the campus now know who Mike Denny is.

Maybe you should look into that.

That will probably happen in due time , but though it is highly unlikely, it’s possible that Saban could decide to coach a few more years. He could even coach at another SEC school. It would be very embarrassing if he coached another team and beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa, at Saban Bryant Stadium or wherever . You’d never hear the end of “he owns that stadium “
All good things in due time.

Also…No offense to Bear Bryant, but Saban is clearly a better coach than him IMO.
eh, I'm not so quick to say this.
BRYANT
Win percentage at Bama- 84
6 national titles- at Bama
323 total wins ( 3/4 of his career he played 9 or 10 regular season games)
13 SEC titles
SABAN
Win percentage at Bama- 87
6 national titles- At Bama
292 total wins ( playing 12 regular season games and playoffs)
11 SEC titles
You can certainly, without doubt make the case Saban was better.
"Clearly" better? No.

I never thought I would “up” vote a bammer, but that was funny as hell.

So, you just toss George H. Denny by the wayside?

Yeah I guess you’re right…Stats are very close. But IMO it was much easier to win “back in the day” than it is in modern CFB.
A LOT more moving parts to a successful program now than it was in Bryant’s day.

No one has thrown out the possibility that it was run by Saban and he declined changing the stadium name.

Gump Stadium has a certain ring to it.
