This exacerbates recent tension in the SEC-ESPN relationship that has threatened to explode into public view over ESPN’s decision to launch the ACC Network, a move undertaken despite what sources say was a promise made by former ESPN president John Skipper to former SEC commissioner Mike Slive that ESPN would never partner with another conference to create a network.

If we didn't get this in writing it's no ones fault but our own. I respect a man on their word but this is the real world and theres too much money at stake to do that kind of arrangement on a hand shake. Plus Slive and Skipper aren't in charge anymore.

What difference does it make if the ACC has their own network?

I need this explained to me please. How is it that an ACC Network would pose any threat whatsoever to the SEC? Unless we are claiming it to be a recruiting advantage maybe?

Listen, the model has always been a limited deal with ESPN and the SEC has always intended to produce and direct on our own when this current contract is up. The only thing we're doing right now, with the ESPN deal, is letting them teach us how to do it.

When this contrsct is up we do our own producing and directing, all the schools are already building and refining their own production facilities ... through the exisiting J-schools in the conference, and all of the talent, the announcers, play-by-play and color talent are already being groomed. You pull from the independent talent pool to fill the gaps and you cut ESPN out of the process because they are nothing but the middle-men as it stands right now.

Does ESPN, if they are still in existence, still broadcast SEC games on their network? Sure they do. Hell, by that time ABC/Disney may own SEC rights. But as far as the SEC Network is concerned ... having an ACC Network doesn't affect us in the least. As a matter of fact I call BS on any ESPN exec making a deal with the SEC that would prevent them from growing their business with any other conference. It just makes zero sense from a business standpoint.

Curious where Finebaum would go if he wasn’t on the SEC Network. Considering the SEC & ESPN are almost tied at the hip, Finebaum’s profile would really diminish if he went elsewhere.

I think ESPN has the leverage here.

Agree, they rustle folks, but it's a good rustle. Finebaum is just rustle for rednecks.

The sad part is Finebaum is a great interviewer. The problem is that he let the rednecks take over for ratings. Now it is wearing thin on the public.

Jim from Tus. called out to Finebaum earlier this week not to leave the show and as one of Finebaum's long time & favorite (PF has him in his HOF callers)callers, that gives some credibility to this story. Too, was talking to an SEC baseball analyst, All American at one of the Mississippi schools & he said much the same thing, that Finebaum & ESPN were at odds; adding that the ACC possible deal was causing major problems in the league office. He said he could see both Finebaum & Rutledge leaving the SECN for parts as yet unknown. Don't care who his replacement might be but at least his time slot would no longer be a recruiting show for bama.

Not sure if this is true, and not sure if the reports of "increasing tensions" between the SEC and ESPN are true. But if they are, that should be no great surprise.

The SEC took the NFL route of dubbing the in-house goober, Greg Sankey, as SEC commissioner. Therefore, it shouldn't surprise anyone if the SEC's leadership level in the commissioner's office matched the same level as the lack of leadership in the NFL commissioner's office because Roger Goodell was just an in-house stooge.

It's been pretty obvious for almost two years (October 2016, to be exact) that Sankey is a poor leader for the conference.

I’m FAR from a fan of Finebaum, I think he showcases the WORST of college football. But he does have a big audience and brings a lot of ppl to watch his show. After seeing some of the contracts ESPN has given other people who bring nothing to the network, I’d want to get paid too.
