Slimebaum never met a coach he didn’t love to be in trouble. He said the same thing about Butch before the Georgia game. Then the SC game became a must win for Butch.
After Butch gets the axe, he will start obsessing over the next one. You can just tell that he gets off on that subject.

The melt & confusion by both fanbases if Butch pulls the upset would be unprecedented.

The timing is because it is the only thing that may prevent a 60+ point loss. Win one for the gipper with the guys giving 110% effort. It will work though and it may be 59-0 instead of 69-0.

if true, that's just cold blooded to make millions of people witness him lose his job @ 2:30pm on Daturday. Id resign now if Im Butch Jones if this even has a hint of truth.
That's messed up

Butch will win. Bama will explode in anguish as will vols fans and Butch will get that juicy contract extension in the middle of the field

Honestly looked for Lyle to have been locked out of the locker room after the USCe game.
Smart move though. Let him take 1 more arse kicking then pack his shite up. Don't allow an interim HC to suffer that mercy killing!!

If he beats Bama ( yeah right), but if he does.... do you fire a guy who finally beat Bama for the first time in a decade?
Could you imagine if this happened?
I kinda want it to happen.

Didn't one of the local news hacks literally chase Gillespie around the inside of the Athletic building trying to get an 'interview'?

Who will the interim be? Hoke?

I agree with what the AD is doing. If you let your interim's 1st game be a 50 point beatdown, it makes it very hard for him to keep the team from quitting.
So, you let the current coach take that arse beating, then you fire him and let the interim start fresh with some winnable games to try and mesh the rest of the season together. I absolutely agree with that mindset
However, there is a chance this blows up in his face if Tenner somehow pulls off a miracle

When Billy G found out he was going to be fired he turned off his cell phone and drove around Lexington for about 7 hours trying to hide. Can't find me, cant fire me!
that's a great story.

Don't really see why you'd wait to pull that trigger. Its not like having him on the sidelines helps you in any way against Bama. Maybe they promised him one last game to prove himself to other teams looking to hire a Lyle?
When the coach is fired midseason the team can rally arournd the interum coach. The offense can be wide open as he's trying to make his case that he should be considered for the spot.
Changing before Bama means the new guy is gonna get drilled and fans lose further interest.
Smart move, probably doesnt work out. Not sure if their Dline coach has a binder or not. If hes binderless then Tennessee is screwed.

Will he get a ride all the way back to campus or will he get the Joey Freshwater special and be left on the rainy Knoxville tarmac?
He should just probably rent a car and drive on over the Oxford.
