Lanning is a players coach. He is a much younger Sam Pittman. The idea is for him and Nike to recruit to Oregon and beat up on the PAC.
He will endear himself to the university. And if they can build a conference championship roster, then they made the right hire.
They have to beat out USC for recruits though. If he can't win on the trail, he isn't doing his job in Oregon.

I heard an interesting comment after the game that I'm not sure how to take.

Basically, the talking head was saying that given the fact that Lanning was implementing a new defense, he likely had to spend the effort teaching the new defense rather than reinforcing fundementals and that would have to come around as the season progresses.

Not sure how much I buy that... but it's an interesting idea. When your system is entirely new, fundamentals might lag with your team. That might explain the poor tackling technique from Oregon.

Ehh.

Practices are split between fundamentals and installation.
Always has been.

The issue is installation versus live game reps (uga had 3 years to practice against that defense. Oregon had 7 months to get ready for UGAs offense).

It took Kirby (and saban) a few years to coach up the defense to a standard. Lanning isn't better than them.

I know you guys hate us..and that is fine. But Auburn fans (as a whole) have been very fair and gracious towards us the past week

Hey if I thought there was a chance in hell AU could make a game out of it Athens, I'd join the shite talking .

But, I have working eyeballs and a working brain and it's clear that this Georgia team is very, very good. It has taken a while, but it seems Kirby has awakened the giant that most knew the Georgia program could be. Makes you wonder just what in the world Richt was doing all those years.

If so, it's sort of shocking to see Auburn with one five-star on the whole team (Owen Pappoe, who is a senior).

It's not really, if you follow recruiting.

I was a big Rciht fan and was very critical of Smart the first season when we struggled. Just goes to show you what I know.

For those of us that have followed the Georgia program for a long time, we all knew when the right guy got in place in Athens things would rapidly escalate.
I thought Richt was going to be IT for a number of years but it became apparent it was not going to happen.
With the support, facilities and HS talent in the state there was no excuse for the program not to reach its' full potential. It appears Kirby is the guy.

Oregon is number 7 in overall team talent per 247. 11 out of 15 defenders who get the majority of the reps are 4 or 5 stars. Their linebackers are top notch.

It's not enough to have 11 4/5 start defenders anymore. A&M played 26 guys on defense as part of the rotation in game one. 22 of them were 4/5 star recruits.

That was without question the greatest offensive game I've ever seen from Georgia.

The only time it seemed like Stetson made a poor choice (not hitting the RB streaking to the pylon), and he pulls a rabbit out of a hat and hits Ladd for 6. Absurd.

Now, can we keep up that pace and continue to grow and develop the rest of the season? We'll see.

Let the salt flow, my child. I'll never get tired of hearing this excuse.

Ga got butt whipped in the SEC championship. Bama was leading in the 4th qtr of Natty having loss their two best receivers and their best cornerbacks injured. If Ga played Bama last week they would have lost the game by at least 2 TDs.

Bama fans, if you wonder why this keeps coming up? No mention of AL in this thread. And yet here is another Tahd fan that can’t cope with reality.

I know it had been a while since Georgia beat Alabama before the title game, but this is just standard operating procedure when it comes to Bama fans and losing football games. Excuses galore or Bama beat themselves. Get used to it.
