Field turf sux. Manziel had about half the skin on his left arm ripped off on the turf at Independence Stadium, that's why he wore a bandage (no excuse btw, it was his non throwing arm anyway but it's still ridiculous).
A&M's grass is amazing. It can handle up to 8 inches of rain per hour and they allow the fans on the field after every game and it still looks amazing week after week. It's nice and soft, feels like a putting green.

A&M's grass is impeccable. No seriously, it is.

So, how many of you had field turf in high school?
Henry, I never had issues with the rubber bits on our high school field, but at the IPF my shoes would be filled with them. Not sure why Ole Miss has it like that.

Our high school was real grass, of course.

I hated playing on it. I would always get the little rubber bits in my mouth.
I'm not interested in your sex life.

Hire a few Aggies and your field can be as nice as A&M's. Don't be a cheap arse hole and get a rubber field.

Without making a joke, I'm pretty sure our groundskeeper for those years was an Aggie. I'd almost bet on it.
More to do with drainage and mold. Field's on solid bedrock and doesn't drain super well in the south endzone.

Yup, as has been discussed on the rant before, Mizzou even brought in professional groundskeepers (I believe Chiefs' and possibly Royals') and even those guys couldn't get grass to grow well on the field. So turf it is, even though I'd obviously prefer grass.

At a cost of nearly 500K/year to replace, it is still cheaper than a field turf surface if you consider those things have to be replaced every 7-8 years or so
Meridian High only paid $500k to have turf installed in Ray Stadium. Alabama has a large football budget and can afford it. MSU has a turf management program so they will have turf of course. I would prefer grass as well, but it is cost prohibitive to those with a limited budget.

Talk to any player about which he prefers.
End of discussion.

The only people that should have a plastic field are schools in the harsh winter states. Any other schools are just lazy to install it

Given the difficulties that KC has had with grass, I guess I might give Missouri a pass on this, and perhaps Arkansas. But Ole Miss? You've got to be kidding me. Nothing says cheap like a Deep South school with a field turf playing surface. When the SEC Network bonanza kicks in, if Ole Miss doesn't go back to grass, they should withdraw from the conference in shame.

Natural grass FTW. Thankfully LSU's field has looked great the last few years.
This. But wonder how the SEC exapansion will affect things.

I actually like field turf a lot. We play on some in pick up games from time to time and it is incredible they way it feels.

You're telling me they couldn't raise the field elevation around a foot in the corners and sidelines? That would be enough to create a permeable bed and you could lay French drains in trenches dug into the bedrock (limestone?)
That is, of course, if you can find some that we haven't already used for frac sand.

Doubt it will be an option to get rid of it. It saves a ton of money in maintenance and it looks better IMO.
I love our field turf
It takes us a day to cut and paint just the practice field. I know for a fact, State had to start painting their field on Wednesday. Our Field Turf saves us a ton of time and money. But I understand why State and other schools have grass.

Field appeared to drain well during the Monsoon Bowl vs Alabama a few weeks ago. I don't know what the problem was with the mold/fungus we kept getting in the south EZ. Whatever it was, experts couldn't fix the problem and we yanked it out.

Is Leo Goertz still keeping that grass on point?
