1980’s. That’s when football was hard nosed and physical. Bowl games meant something. It’s also when I was growing into a teen and realized the importance of football in the South.

The Iron Bowl rivalry was at its best during this decade- some absolute classics.

Anything before ESPN took over ABC. The mid to late nineties into the early to mid 2000s was a lot of fun. Even ESPN was fun then before it took over everything. College Football primetime games on ABC had some great storylines and drama. The build up was very similar to the NBA on NBC in the nineties.

2000-2010. SEC dominance had just begun toward the tail end and there was still a lot of parity across the sport. Gameday still meant something when it showed up at your school, the ESPN jingle of the time was second only to CBS, Thanksgiving rivalry week still involved actual rivals, and bowls still mattered.

Agreed. This was a great era of CFB. The ESPN jingle is gone, no one cares about gameday anymore, and parity is lost across the sport.

The 70's. Pre-teen and teen years. Going to the games with my father, getting on the field at legion field before games to get autographs numerous times. Getting a picture of Bear and me made standing at the goalpost. The days when you had to listen to most games on the radio and use your imagination, then read the Sunday fish wrap to review the stats and read the columns.

The simple days my friends.

Bowl games thereafter became “ meaningless “.

Bowl games returned to being meaningless with the implementation of the playoffs.

Notice I said returned. For a very long time, they were (as most are now) exhibition games. The last polls happened at the end of the season and bowls were a reward for those seasons.

Wwhat's happening now is simply a return to how things used to be.

Gotta be the 2000s, I personally think 2007 was the apex of college football

I’ve long said that if they ever managed to encapsulate the weeks, games, and pregame shows of 2007 into a box set of some sort that I would absolutely buy it.

Never seen anything like that year for a sport and I’m not sure we ever will again

shite, I didn’t even mention the majesty of actual watchable Thursday night college football games and the glory of Jefferson Pilot/Raycom/CSS Sports and having Brooks and Dunn with their modified “Play Something Country” pregame song to “Let’s Play Some Football”

Alabama hadn’t sucked all the oxygen out of the room yet in conference, every year it really was a bit of a crap shoot as to who would end up in Atlanta in a good way. From 2001-2010 LSU won it 3 times, Florida 2 times, Georgia 2 times, Auburn 2 times, Bama once. Arkansas made the game twice, Tennessee made the game twice.

Really was an incredible decade.

1980s and 1990s. I’m 46 now, so I was born in December 1974. I was a kid who grew up loving college football in the 1980s. As a senior in high school, I went to the 1993 Sugar Bowl to see Alabama win the national title over Miami. Awesome memories.

Just a reminder that OC Bryan Harsin was the one called that infamous statue of liberty play to beat Oklahoma

Lol the highlight for Auburn football the next couple of years will be that their coach called a play in 2007.

90s by far. The game was evolving, we made the move to the BCS, Tennessee was riding high with great players and complete teams. It was in college and my world was a very happy one. If I didn’t have a meet or tournament then a group of us could always find a way to a college game. Middle Georgia and GMC when our highschool buddies were playing. Athens, Columbia, Atlanta, Knoxville, Tallahassee when we could. Drive out on a Friday and party that night, tailgate the next day and drive back to milledgeville that night or Sunday. From 94-99 were the best of times.

2000's were great.
Can't help liking the uniforms, players' and coaches' personalities, hair and clothing styles of the 60's or 70's more, though. I also liked the tension of the games, even though the offenses weren't as sophisticated. Atmosphere at the games was better, too. Mascots and icons were great. Probably just nostalgia. NFL 60's and 70's definitely my favorites. Not sure on college.

2000s. I was 12 in 2000 right when we turned it around with Lou Holtz. I grew up a Gamecock but really didn't pay much attention until I was a little older. Earliest memories for football are the back-to-back Outback Bowl wins over Ohio State. I also was in middle school through college (at South Carolina) through that decade. So would've been when I was attending games in the student section too 2006-2009. Ahh the memories..
