new bylaw that imposed strict penalties for playing former pros.

does this include guys who practiced with NFL squads, and in some cases multiple teams, signing a contract for medical liabilities and travel expenses? are those guys considered NFL players? just curious here.

This was the PLAYERS suing for eligibility. Not LSU. That’s like saying Ole Miss sued the NCAA for Chambliss’ extra year of eligibility. They didn’t. Chambliss did. There was nothing to back down from bc LSU said from the beginning that it will comply with the rules and that’s why none of you fools can yet name ONE rule that was actually broken. All this other stuff was unnecessary posturing. It’s the SEC that made the last minute changes and that’s why now the PLAYERS are going to sue the ncaa and the sec. Not LSU.

Getting paid has never impacted amateur status at the NCAA or SEC level.

Getting paid to play your sport has. NIL always skirted this because as the name states, the players were paid for "name, image, and likeness"

Obviously it's all stupid but it's within the existing and new rules.

They can't sue LSU. LSU has sovereign immunity.

They didn't back down. They completely folded. Punishments to LSU forthcoming

I’d wait until we see what the SEC (due to its own short sighted hubris) owes the unrostered players before definitively declaring winners and losers.

In this scenario the players would have to detail and explain their damages.

So we're talking a couple mil, max.

I don't think they'll get it but I also don't think the SEC would sweat it.

We will see…..I’m no lawyer…..in my opinion the SEC will have to find a definition of professional in that reasonably precludes college players being paid via revshare. If the SEC can’t convince anyone legally that the rostered players are not professional and the unrostered players are professional then I’d be very curious to see what the follow on affects would be.

You live in a fantasy world where LSU was not involved in this at all. Let's look at what Kiffin siad:

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/49785035/lsu-lane-kiffin-says-players-endorse-pursing-ex-nflers

quote:

LSU coach Lane Kiffin said Monday that he "struggled" with the decision to continue to pursue former NFL rookies seeking a fifth year of college eligibility even as the SEC opposes it but that because his current players said to "bring 'em," it made Kiffin "feel a little better in the struggle."

quote:

Kiffin said tight end Dae'Quan Wright, who was released by the Cleveland Browns, has been practicing with the team along with former Notre Dame defensive end Junior Tuihalamaka.

quote:

if it makes your team better, and it's legal to do, and the players want it, I'll take the hit publicly for it. "
