We all agree it needs to be expanded
8 is too many. At max, it should be 6 with 1 and 2 earning a bye and 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5 playing this weekend.
That said, I think the BCS generally always got it right for 1 vs 2. Certainly, its top 4 were good enough. No one in the BCS era ever brought up a 5th place team or worse as a worthy contender.
Football is fluky in an era of high parity. Consistency over the reg season has to matter. Any expansion should be minimal and find a means to incentivize the reg season.
I have laid out a really solid plan in past threads for a 128 team playoff that works very well for the expansion crowd.

Well, those 6 wins didn't exactly come from Power 5 juggernauts did they?
Ga Tech 7-5
North Carolina 2-9
Maryland 5-7
Illinois 4-8
UCLA 3-9
Arizona 5-7
2 losses to Texas 9-4 and Ohio State 12-1

Our AD Danny White is on record saying P5 games are easier for UCF the last 2 years than our in conference games. Food for thought.

Oh, your AD said that? Shocker.
My mom is on record saying I'm the smartest man alive and I should be playing major league baseball.

Do y’all believe the 4 team “playoff” is fair and equitable for all stakeholders or does it need to be fixed? I’ll hang up and listen.
It's more fair than the BCS process was.
And anything that keeps a fraud like UCF out of the playoff picture is a good thing.

Nd not having to play a championship game makes it easier in them.

I love reading this, especially coming from fans of schools who have somewhat recently lost to UCF, Troy, ULM, Georgia Southern, The Citadel, etc.

Getting up for one game is one thing. Lots of G5 schools have enough talent to pull an upset in one game. What separates the P5 from the G5 is having to play at that level week in and week out, especially in a conference like the SEC. Last year you had a beat up Auburn team who ran the SEC west gauntlet matched up with a talented UCF who played absolutely nobody all year. UCF won the game, but they weren't the better team; they were just the fresher team.

The fighting Irish don't have to play hard as they don't play in a conference! They should be known as cup-cake U!

In years that those teams went 3-8, 9-4 (LOLSU), 7-6, 3-9 and 2-10.
Yea, beating the drudges of a league certainly entitles you to be named a Top 4 team in America. What were we thinking, we clearly forgot that time UCF beat Mike DuBose and his 3 win juggernaut.
I have no issues with a non-P5 having a legit shot, but they have to kill their conference and beat a legitimately good Top 10/15 team OOC. They can't have a SOS of 100.

Gumps dickriding Purdue. What a year.
Loving your coach for winning at football is fricking weird outside of Tuscaloosa.

I think it's fine but I do think it needs to be looked at in a different way. The 4 team playoff shouldn't be about finding the best 4 teams.. it should be about identifying the best team in the nation and giving them the opportunity to prove it with 3 other teams.
So Alabama is number 1, it's up to the other 3 teams to beat them. I think though the 2 & 3 should represent the best 2 and 3 teams in the nation.. they play each other to determine who will challenge Alabama.
Now number 4 is where it gets interesting.. to me I think number 4 shouldn't necessarily by the number 4 team in the nation.. but it should be more like a wild card.
For this year, Notre Dame should be the wild card and should play against Alabama first, I don't think they deserve to be ahead of Oklahoma given their situation. If ND had lost a game then I do think UCF should be in as a wild card. If you take a team that hasn't lost any games then to me that's a wild card that should be given the opportunity to get smashed by Alabama.
I know it's a odd way of looking at it.. but to me how can you pick that 4 spot given the strength of the 4,5,6 teams.

Oh. So you're saying those teams shouldn't get the benefit of the doubt because of the conference they're playing in. They should also probably do things like go undefeated for two consecutive years.

Define Stakeholders, please.
Because if you think UCF is a stakeholder, you are clearly mistaken. Your money is pathetic in the big picture of college sports. And if you think college sports these days are about anything more than money, once again, you are clearly mistaken.
